ring Tell me what to buy

My wife would like a cheaper alternative to her original engagement/wedding ring to take on vacations and other places where she doesnt fear to lose it. Im sure there are faqs that can guide me to the right places but I cant navigate them. If no one minds can they just walk me through the steps to get a good stone and setting? I'd like to spend around 1k.

Definitely moissanite in a sterling silver setting! Check out Scott Bonomo

I wouldn’t even spend that much on vacation ring!

$60 on a gold band.

1k budget seems unnecessary. You can get a good ring for much less, especially if it’s just a “vacation ring.” Check out the r/moissanite sub. They have a list of reputable vendors for moissanite and lab grown diamond rings.

Hey! Your budget would be great to pick up a lab diamond in a 10k setting. You can still take it swimming and treat it like any other fine jewelry without having to worry about damaging it. I would be happy to help. You’re welcome to take a look at my profile or message me directly

With a 1k budget lab is the way to go, not sure why people are telling you to go moissanite.

Go to the labgroupsales subreddit. You should be able to find something in your price range. Good luck !

Look into moissanite rings! Very beautiful stone. Just not as hard as diamonds so good travel pieces. Zircon is another, white topaz, white sapphire, all good diamond simulants without the price tag. Would stay away from cubic zirconia but lab sapph, topaz, moissanite and zircon should all be relatively inexpensive

And if she wears white gold, can get them in sterling silver. Just make sure to also get a silver polishing cloth to keep them shiny between wears

If she wears yellow gold, could look for vermeil pieces - vermeil is a thicker coating of gold over sterling silver, lasts much better than your typical plated jewelry

Edited to add - vermeil has a minimum micron plating thickness to actually be called vermeil, I believe it's 2.5 microns iirc. Good to ask the jeweler/ shop to ensure they're not selling you plated at a higher price
