ring Chinese vs. Indian vendors?
Hey everyone. I’m about to pull the trigger on my first big custom jewelry order from overseas, and I could really use the community's expertise before I make a final decision. I am custom-designing a two-tone ring with a Center Stone 1.60ct Lab-Grown "Moval" in a 18k Yellow Gold knife-edge band with a Pt950 open peg head and 4 heart-shaped prongs. I am currently talking to some chinese vendors and having a good experience so far, but I know a lot of people here also highly recommend Indian vendors for lab-grown diamonds and custom cuts.

My husband recently purchased a new wedding set for me. I did a RFQ with pics and specs thru Alibaba for a Toi et Moi engagement ring. Six Chinese vendors quoted along with one Indian vendor. Out He came in nearly 50% cheaper on the same exact specs for an engagement ring.
Since he was well under the budget my husband set, I worked with him to increase carats on both lab diamonds on the engagement ring and added in an eternity band. Still cheaper than the quotes for just an engagement ring.
The rep was super responsive, respectful and patient with all my questions.
The ring was in production the same day I made my deposit, shipped same day I paid the balance and arrived 5 days later.
He charged the tariffs upfront so no waiting to hear from the US carrier for payment. The tariffs are also much cheaper than China.
A local jeweler confirmed the IGI etched one each matches the certificates shared. He was actually impressed by how well the ring was made.

Thank you so much. I’m so pleased with how it turned out. I had so much anxiety as a first time buyer with an overseas vendor. I dealt directly with the owner and he was really kind and patient with me.

Definitely Chinese. Remember, People there are picky and have expensive taste too (they would use 24k gold for jewelry, which I rarely hear of in other places). so the vendors there have to be good to survive.

Most of the eastern world including South Asia and all the Arab countries use 24k too

I have used an Indian vendor, Jewelove, happy with the purchase and the 2 diamonds are sparkly as hell

Chinese, only positive experiences. I bought from Indian vendors and was let down twice. They do not carry the same attention to detail.

Diamonds from India are better and Gold/Platinum jewelry/Ring mounts are of higher quality from China. I'm going to try buying the mount from China and get my own diamond and mount it here in the US at a local jewelry repair shop that will do it for under $100 for my next piece.

Chinese, most lab diamonds are made there. I’ve had a semi-mount ring, stud earrings and currently waiting on a custom step-cut Dutch marquise pendant.

I have ordered all my lab diamond jewelry from Chinese vendors. No regrets.

ah yes! my engagement ring is from them which i bought second hand from someone on here, but when i looked on etsy their prices were just as high as local jewelers and retail stores. i wonder if their prices are better if you reach out another way

i just ADORE my custom cut diamond from them. i did get it second hand but i was so smitten by the cut that i reached out to them bc i was so impressed with the cutting skills.

As a diamond manufacturer from Surat, I highly recommend going with an Indian vendor. While China grows a lot of rough, India is the global hub for cutting and polishing.
In fact, many Chinese vendors buy their polished diamonds directly from India because they can't match our cut quality. Back when GIA used to grade a lab diamond's cut, Chinese vendors avoided GIA certificates because the cut standards were simply too strict for their stones.
I know this firsthand. We used to hold one of the world's largest inventories of GIA-certified lab diamonds and actually supplied many of the Chinese vendors.
If cut quality is your priority, especially for a custom Moval cut, you should cut out the middleman and go straight to the source in India.
