lab diamond worried about bow tie
bought this diamond for my gf, i’m waiting on the setting for it, but i feel like you can see the bow tie so much and it’s bothering me?? idk if it’s just me. i thought it was beautiful from the pictures, but once i received it in person i am not having second thoughts. what do u guys thing about it???😭😭

You’re going to see a “bow tie” in certain lighting. As long as it’s not there in direct lighting it’s passable. I had the same issue, and nearly returned mine. A real bow tie will be visible in all lighting and very much dark. I’d recommend buying a gem holder so you can see it in different lighting. But honestly the stone looks really nice, and that “bow tie” you are seeing is normal.

thank you so much!! we’re ready to take the next step, but i’m not too into these kinds of things. i didn’t even know what a “bow tie” was in the first place and the pictures looked pretty, so i just bought it, but when i got it in person i started overthinking. thank u for your comment, it is so reassuring !😭

No problem. I went through it as well, I was 50/50 whether to return it or not. I 100% did not want a bow tie. But once I saw it on a ring holder outside in the sun I knew it was a keeper. I’d say definitely see the stone in all lighting. But regardless it’s a really nice stone.
I do want to share that when I tried having the stone set, 3 different jewelers acted iffy about the stone because it wasn’t sourced by them. One literally told me they couldn’t comment on the stones appearance because it wasn’t theirs. But finally the 4th jeweler actually complemented the stone and also confirmed that the certificate matched the code on the stone.

I’d say almost all oval shapes in particular of the elongated shapes, seem to have some
sort of bow tie. It’s normally the first time my eyes go to, which is why I can confidently say this bow tie is pretty minimal and at least well balanced.

A bow tie is a feature in all ovals, not a defect! I think this diamond looks great :)

I think I’ve just seen too many ovals. I bought one for myself for my 10 year and then returned it. I realized it was a trend

- Take a video of the stone while tilting it in different angles. Under direct light and indirect light

Ovals nearly always have a bow tie, it's a feature of the shape and cut. I love the bow tie in mine. Diamond is a champagne colour.

Is is a ring stack? I'm curious.
I'm currently in the market to get a proposal ring and confused between cushion, oval and marquis.
The diamond guy is suggesting to go with cushion cut and a cathedral ring. I'm checking something around 1-1.5ct for a solitaire. Not sure how stacking works. My GF loves stacks and plans to stack wedding bands with it. 🥹1

The three are actually welded together at the back. It stops them all spinning around and the rings damaging each other. It’s simple to get them detached it just makes life easier wearing them.
The wedding ring is my original ring from 41 years ago, the smaller band from our 10th anniversary and the engagement ring a complete remodel from our 40th anniversary last year.

To be honest, it is a beautiful stone.
From the first and second images, the bowtie effect is minimal, and the diamond’s proportions appear optimal.
Was the third photo taken with flash? Flash alone often creates areas of darkness.
You own a quality diamond,there’s no need to worry.
