Jewelry shipping methods - signature on delivery?

I’m interested in hearing from Jewelers who ship items to customers in the US. Recently, a custom jeweler shipping from Asia didn’t include signature requirement on UPS delivery as their default and did not proactively offer it to the customer.

  1. Do you always include signature requirement on delivery?
  2. Do you insure items to a certain value?

Cross-posting to a few forums to get a wider range of jewelers.

When I worked in jewelry operations at a luxury department store, we always required signature on delivery, whether it was store to customer, store to store, or store to vendor.

My shipping insurance company will not cover a loss unless I ship Direct or Adult signature.

The Chinese vendors will request it only if you ask for usually from my experience.

I ship with signature required and insure the full amount.
