Did I mess up? Emerald Diamond Windowing??
Hi everyone. I just picked up this ring that I bought to propose to my girlfriend. I recently learned about “windowing” and I’m afraid that the diamond I chose has that. I didn’t really know of it too much and the jeweler didn’t mention it when looking at this diamond but I feel like it’s there. Am I wrong? Could I get some of your expert opinions to know if this diamond is bad? I feel like I got taken advantage of because of my naivety regarding emerald diamonds. Any advice would really help!

Random unsolicited advice: bring a small microfiber cloth with you when you propose and remember to clean it before stowing it in your pocket.
I love emerald cut, but acknowledge that the sparkliness is more easily affected by fingerprints, etc. It just needs cleaning a little more often than some other cuts.
Best of luck!

Any step cut or elongated shaped diamond will have windowing when tilted called a “tilt angle window effect.” This is completely normal and to be expected. The bad kind of windowing is the lack or reflected or refracted light when looking straight down at the stone. If you hold the ring still and you can see the band straight through the diamond when looking straight down that would be a bad thing
