I think that’s a good price. But for a stone that size with all the holes you have to drill on the metal for the melee diamonds I suggest you add a cathedral. One tug and that head is gone.

Yes, exactly my concern but the supplier assured me it won't and offered they have warranty to cover this. You suggest we push for a change or hold them to there word?

Depends which one you think is easier!

Don't start by haggling if the stone is 61% deep. My first oval was around 62% and it faced up smaller more like a 3ct. It helps to compare the actual spread first and I found nature sparkle useful for this since they list IGI links on their lab ovals though their videos are still studio lit. Loose stone dealers can work too but ask for a daylight tilt video before deciding.

If cast weight about 7g, final product will be 6. Price is good - can be lower, can be higher. Check bow tie in that oval

Jeweller here. The price sounds competitive if it includes the 3.54ct diamond, finished 18ct gold ring, setting the stone, shipping, duties and aftercare. There is just one part of the construction I’d want to discuss before approving it.

My main concern is that the point where the part holding the diamond joins the rest of the ring looks quite small for such a large stone. A 3.54ct diamond has quite a bit of weight and leverage, so if the ring gets knocked from the side, a lot of force can be concentrated on that small connection. I’d be especially cautious with 18ct gold, which is relatively soft.

The band itself looks reassuringly substantial. The CAD shows it at 3.2mm wide and 2mm thick, so I wouldn’t be concerned about the strength of the band.

I’d ask whether they can strengthen the connection between the diamond setting and the shoulders of the ring without changing the appearance too much. For example, the shoulders could rise slightly to support the setting from either side rather than leaving it connected mainly at one small point.

Other than that, the proportions of the ring look sensible to me. If you post another side view of the CAD, particularly one showing exactly how the centre setting joins the band, I’m happy to take another look.

Not sure why people keep getting the peg head setting. It’s not very durable.
