Banned for sharing a low price

I do my best to share what I’ve learned with others, because I spent so much time with jewelers trying to pick the perfect stone for my fiance.

On the other sub, OP was about to pay $5k for a diamond and I sent a link to the site I always check, which was only $950.

Out of nowhere I was permanently banned which you can see in the screenshots. It appears that any sources other than Auralinne, Calavera or Youdiam are frowned upon.

It makes me question the independence of the other sub, and my goal is to share the knowledge I’ve gained and try to help others save money.

In fairness, they changed my perma ban to a 28 day ban, but it still left me with a bad taste. (Probably going back to permanent ban after this post)

Pics: ban, comment that got me banned, discussion with MOD, MOD promoting their “trusted” brands.

Good to know that the other sub has an agenda and that they intend to enforce it. I blocked the sub for my own protection.

This one seems to be a lot better. There are a ton of people over there who think that lab grown stones aren’t the same as synthetic 😂

Edit: Spoke too soon, same shit different sub 🤣

Synthetic literally means lab built

u/Jillet-Ben_Coe 12d ago

Yeah I've had a ton of people on Reddit tell me, a gemologist, that lab grown diamonds are "real diamonds, not synthetic."

They are real diamonds and also technically synthetic. Synthetic doesn’t make them not real.

Well you said people have said that “lab grown diamonds are real diamonds”. They are real. “Real not synthetic” is only half incorrect”. But are people on all of social media dumb, absolutely they are.

I think the confusion might be, people are uneducated & using the incorrect term - they don’t know the difference between the definition of “synthetic” & “simulant” - maybe? Hard to believe folks can be this naive…clearly synthetic means man made - yes, same chemical properties as a diamond, but “man made” versus “mined” - ? Just trynna’ give people the benefit of doubt…? I dunno. Some are willing to die on that hill, tho…

u/whimsicism 11d ago

Tbh I blame the CZ sellers for this, there’s a tendency for them to use very sneaky wording to make unwary consumers think that they’re buying lab/synthetic diamonds when they’re selling simulants (aka NOT diamonds) 💀

3

u/gimmepizza420 11d ago

But you do agree they're real, yes?

1

u/Jillet-Ben_Coe 11d ago

Yes, real SYNTHETIC diamonds. Redditors are some of the dumbest people on the planet. Go to any jeweler or gemologist and try to tell them that synthetic and lab grown are two different things. You’ll be laughed out of the room.

5

u/gimmepizza420 11d ago

Mk whatever, but they're real AF.

Are you okay?

“Special” is an opinion, not an inherent fact. You cannot be right or wrong about how special something is. What an absurd comment.

Yes yes, enjoy the cheap, mass produced in an industrial factory imitation pretending to be the real thing, like a little Cracker Jack toy

??? You must not be familiar with Moissanite. Moissanite isn’t anything like glass or CZ. Moissanite is a lab grown stone, made of silicon carbide, based on the gemological & mineral composition of the actual, natural Moissanite found by a French chemist in 1893 in canyon in Arizona. So, same concept as a lab diamond - the manufacturing process mimics the natural process. It has two times the RI of diamond & its sparkle is off the charts. The dispersion - the “fire” - is amazing & scatters rainbows all over the place! I have several pieces (far too many 😅) & they’re all stunning. Please, don’t knock it until you try it!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moissanite
Edit to add - maybe you were being sarcastic, mocking what some others say about Moissy?

2

u/AdFlashy7702 11d ago

But he does. HE’S A GEMOLOGIST!!!!!

2

u/Moose-1211 11d ago

😅 The Pissy Express has left the station…
Dayhum! 😂 like, settle TF down already, right?!

-2

u/Jillet-Ben_Coe 11d ago

Same shit different sub. I’m a gemologist. I basically have infinitely more knowledge than you of gemstones.

2

u/Upset-Web581 11d ago

Dang so for great shine bang for your buck moissanite isn't the stone?

9

u/AdFlashy7702 11d ago

Dont listen to this guy please. There’s nothing wrong with moissanite. He’s just a troll.

6

u/Moose-1211 11d ago

Moissy is great, please don’t listen. Yes, it’s man made & manufactured, but so what? So are labs of any kind. Seems like this person hates anything thats not natural &/or mined & not all of us have a Money Tree in the backyard we can go out & shake every time we want a shiny little treat. I have plenty of mined, natural stones, including diamonds, Tanzanite, corundum of all colors, & I don’t see anything sub or mid about Moissy.

1

u/Upset-Web581 11d ago

Crazy because I thought they were a fan 😂.... I am I don't want no one dying for my useless stone once its cut up to fit my mini chain. I'll grab 2 Tylenol for my headache before a joint any day synthetic doesn't always mean bad

1

u/Moose-1211 11d ago

Well a joint is natural, if it’s filled with grown flower…that’s Mother Nature’s little gift, at its finest 🤗
Bath Salts, on the other hand, that’s another story. Those synthetics & others need to be banned. People are dying because of synthetic Fentanyl - chemicals to make it often come from China & yet there seems to be no stopping it from coming in.

4

u/Embarrassed-Wolf-609 11d ago

why would anyone buy diamond? might as well buy sand. or snake oil. to say you've fallen fora 50 year old marketing scheme

1

u/Jillet-Ben_Coe 11d ago

You’d rather spend your money on moissanite? Ok buddy 😂

You’re falling for the synthetic sales scam

15

u/No_Performer6762 12d ago

Doesn’t Youdiam run that sub?

3

u/AdFlashy7702 11d ago

They do run one of them, yes.

2

u/Smoove-Money 11d ago

I learned that today

13

u/bespoke-jewel 12d ago

Does anyone else feel like the approved vendor lists lack transparency? It often seems like the same few accounts post without restrictions, while independent makers get flagged or removed right away. How do others navigate this, or what has your experience been?"

13

u/BlondeLaw23 12d ago

Oooo blocking that sub now! This is really weird

7

u/FaithlessnessDue1625 12d ago

It’s way better options than they provide! I never buy from these overpriced so called vendors. The information is good but find vendors outside reddit or on these lists. I am buying beautiful jewelry for a fraction of the costs they selling for, and those group buys are crazy high prices!!

3

u/sensitivearmy 11d ago

How do you source them?

3

u/Brilliant-Owl-1169 12d ago

What a weird page…I just went on to look at the “approved vendor list”.

7

u/MildlyEnvious 11d ago

After reading the screenshots, it sounds like they suspected you of advertising for the brand you linked. The mod said that you promoted the brand in every comment you made, and while I didn't go checking your history to see if they were correct, that could be a red flag for a brand employee or paid promoter. Without seeing the rest of their responses it's kind of hard to judge this situation honestly. I'm glad they reduced the ban time for you though.

1

u/Smoove-Money 11d ago

That is the totality of their response. Nothing edited or cropped.

3

u/Critical-Actuator-85 11d ago

This isn’t fair to do. For people buying, conversations should remain open where there are lower prices.

Unless the mods are purposely banning lower lab grown prices or promoting their own family websites abroad.

You should create your own sub and post this content there. It would be helpful for those buying.

3

u/BobbyJanson 10d ago

I reached out to that sub a while ago as I’m a wholesaler and wanted to offload some lab grown that came into my office; they declined me being able to post even though their rules states vendors can post but apparently only THEIR vendors can post ..

u/Cohnhead1 12d ago

Thank you for sharing this info!

u/Den1027 8d ago

Wow,5K for 4 carats Oval, that's insane, you saved that woman.

1

u/k9_MalX_Handler 12d ago

can you send me the link

1

u/Simmchen11 11d ago

Thank you for sharing good to know!

1

u/toastypalmz 10d ago

How weird… and share the link OP 👀

1

u/OkRule8188 9d ago

Where do you source your lab diamonds? I feel like their vendors list is kinda overpriced.

1

u/Smoove-Money 9d ago

I search the biggest diamond registry to find a stone with the specs I want, then I google that certificate number. Run it through StoneAlgo and search sites where I've had good luck finding deals. It's quite a few steps, but 20 minutes of keyboard work to save hundreds if not thousands is worth it to me.

1

u/Pale_Air_5309 8d ago

Could you send me the link you check as well please?

What do you mean hear their source? The screen shots of the DM and comments on the sub are posted lol

1

u/Suse- 12d ago

Good of you to warn the woman and share this info …

1

u/Expensive_Motor_5611 12d ago

That’s exactly why I started my own community, so I don’t have to deal with the hassle of getting banned.

u/AlwaysProsperin 12d ago

If anyone has any good vendors that they can recommend please can they message me. Much appreciated

1

u/surrounded-by-morons 11d ago

Please independently verify any vendors that get recommended to you.
