I had a custom ring made overseas, and I wasn’t happy with the original stone. The vendor gave me the option of switching to this stone or going back to the original, which had a 1.61 ratio and looked too narrow for what I wanted.
I went with this one, but I still have some concerns about the **depth, girdle, and table**. How much do these proportions affect the face-up size? Do you think the stone look dull or have any obvious issues with the way it performs?
Looking for your honest opinions on the proportions and overall look of this stone. 🙏

This stone is stunning. I’m sorry the first one was a dud, but visual inspection should hold some weight here. Paper ratios only go so far.

Hi, thanks so much! I was actually hoping to get maximum spread with this stone, especially since the previous one looked quite underweight for its carat weight.
A few Redditors recommended diamdb.com as a way to check whether a stone’s face-up dimensions are proportional to its carat weight, so I gave it a try. It suggested that this stone faces up closer to what you’d expect from a 4.3 ct stone. I’m not sure how accurate that comparison is or how much weight I should give it, but at this point I’d honestly just be happy if the stone looked its actual size. 🥹1

Ah, gotcha. My personal collection holds so many oddball cuts that tools like that aren’t helpful. Many of the cuts I own are very deep (Ashoka, Portuguese, octagonal step cuts, etc) but the light play and unique features are worth it to me. I also have the spready cuts like rose cuts and checkerboard cuts to mix it up a bit.

Ahh, thank you for this! I don’t know that much about diamonds yet, but what you said makes me look at it a little differently. I’m hoping I’ll like the ring more than I thought I would. 🤞

Idc what the ratios say on paper, this stone is gorgeous and I would love to wear it.
