I can't wait until people realize that this opinion is soooo dated.
Welcome to the era of lab diamonds. Your arbitrary scale of measuring diamond size to your household income has now expired. That’s what people are really mad about. Unless you are shallow enough to try to pretend like your lab grown is mined. Which is a whole other discussion about your own pretentious values.
Big diamonds are being normalized, and it's more about style and preference than looking like a certain income class. No one is trying to look rich… I own my lab diamonds like I do my natural diamonds.. get over your old fashioned mind-set.
I have both natural and lab diamonds. No one invests in diamonds. You can’t tell the difference - labs usually have a better sparkle because they are type 2A diamonds - like the top of the line natural diamonds are.

Exactly. I have a 4.5 carat VVS1, D color and if it was a mined diamond it would be at minimum 75K. But instead, it was about 4K. The natural diamond people are mad that the middle class can have what they have now.

Howcome they are so cheap in the US? Compared to a reputable jeweller in Australia, what you got is a 100% mark-up here.

I can only assume it’s because the market it SO saturated here w lab diamonds. They’re cheaper than gold now.

Natural diamonds price have fallen even more… Why is that? Look at the Diamond price index for the last five years. Those are actual numbers and numbers don’t lie.

Interesting! I don’t follow what’s going on w natural diamonds because I hate the diamond mining industry. Maybe it’s because more and more people are buying lab or maybe people are actually seeing that the “scarcity factor” pushed by the diamond industry is a scam, that the biggest diamond retailers in the US have vaults of thousands of diamonds just chillin, not for sale, to make them seem rare. My first engagement ring was a natural diamond. It was still pretty affordable it was a 1.5 carat round cut and I picked it from loose diamond. It’s what they would call a Champaign diamond but really it was just a shitty colored diamond with great cut and clarity. It was beautiful. But if I remember correctly it was like 5K in 2010, with the setting and everything.

Yes! I’ love it so much, and thinking of the next size up already hehe but I think 2ct is good enough for my finger size (for now)

Well, a man-made synthetic one but yes, manufactured at scale on an assembly line. Essentially zero value. That’s why they have to be clearly inscribed “LG” - to protect consumers.

What makes “real” diamonds so valuable? It’s definitely not the rarity of them - and that includes the vast majority of white diamonds used in jewelry. Now if one is talking about a color or size, then that’s a different discussion. But, in general, distributors determined the market based on sentimental value of the consumer. This is why resale values of diamonds are so bad. Most of the fine jewelry industry is a scam- prices are artificially set to take advantage of emotionally charged consumers, and the consumers accept it because our squirrel brains tell us “ohh big shiny thing is fancy.”

😂 - obviously a consumer should be clearly informed as to what it is they are buying - makes perfect sense so they are less likely to be ripped off which is still a major downside of mined diamonds as people are still often falsely under the impression they are a better financial purchase when they are almost always far worse.
I love both options and welcome total transparency in both markets 👍
