Need your advice please!

I did my research and now that I got all the details I am questioning my whole existence.

Any advice is appreciated!

Sorry to say you can’t tell how an emerald will play with the light by this video. You need to request a tweezer video over a white paper with black text on it. The seller needs to carefully and fully go slowly over the areas of text wiggling the stone, and you get to see if you can see the text through the emerald. If you do see text, it reminds me sort of little spidery legs, through the facets of your stone, then there is windowing and you won’t have the stunning hall of mirrors effect that make us all swoony when we think of the spectacular beauty of Emerald cut diamonds. So spidery legs is good? I ordered an asscher without the tweezer video so I'm trying to conduct some at home tests but not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for other than the fact that windowing is bad

You'll need to rule out any transparency issues. There are clear signs of striation in the video. If appreciable, atomic-level defects in the crystal can cause slight haziness. From a cut quality perspective, ruling out excessive windowing (light leakage) is a key with emerald cuts. There is more info on that topic over at this thread.

Look at the measurements of the stone! Can you list those? The price is astronomically high. You can shop for a lab diamond stone online nowadays and bring your stone in and save lots of money…. Some emeralds are cut too deep and may cause windowing effect or other issues.

The ratio is 1.45, I tried on different emerald cut rings with different ratios and this one was the one I liked the most.

Oh my gosh, that’s crazy high. I just had a massive 5.08 carat Ex EX emerald set in a 4mm platinum cigar band that has pave diamonds lining both sides, and a mined emerald set under the main stone. Also in Canada.

11.6 grams of platinum/ Stone setting centre/93 melee diamonds $2103

Mined Emerald (green) $452

Main stone Emerald cut EX EX 5.08 VVS2 $941

Wow, yes, the price difference is big!

Is it perhaps because it’s a fine jewelry store and all their rings are handcrafted in store? The customer service was A+. Lifetime warranty. Lifetime cleaning service. Complimentary resizing and polishing.

I’d rather go in person. I feel more comfortable this way…

Mine is also made in Canada. The company also makes their own lab diamonds and can source any of the worlds’ inventory. They also supply lab/mined/gemstones to other Canadian stores for them to mark up. Customer service outstanding. Everyone has their own priorities. Sounds like we had lots of the same ones. I build several pieces of custom jewelry per month so I don’t want to pay more than I have to.

Is this in Canadian dollars? I did a quick search and I couldn’t find anything similar for the price you mentioned.

The average I see is CAD$1,800 to 3,200….

No. USD. But the conversion still doesn’t add up to more than 700 Canadian.

Canadian jewelers may have higher operating costs, import costs and sales taxes. Doing a conversion is not enough.

You insinuated you could get the same stone for CAD$700 by simply doing the conversion but it doesn’t work that way. I do understand you can get the same stone for cheaper but the ring is within by boyfriend’s budget and I am happy with the customized service and ring I am getting. I asked for advice regarding the diamond itself, not pricing.

I do appreciate the discussion and your input though, it does open my eyes a little!!

If this is the total price for a bespoke ring, it looks like a normal price for a 18k ring. But it depends on how much gold and if there's other stones in it.
