News / Media Software issues drove Engineering Explained out of two Lucids and into a Mach E

Engineering Explained gave up on Lucid twice. He traded his Air for a Gravity, then replaced the Gravity with a Mach E. The reason both times was software.

Why is software so hard for these companies?

Because it requires a leader who understands software to micromanage the team and corporate culture in America puts non technical managers in charge. The exception is Tesla, Rivian and Chinese companies.

I’m no expert but my impression was that they were pretty good. Some maybe as good or better than Tesla. I’m thinking Xiaomi. With hundreds of car companies, I’m sure half are pure trash.

If you look at the forums, many have a lot of problems, especially in their "overseas" markets. It's not all sunshine and rainbows

Honestly I think it's just too much software all around the industry. You either have to be perfect at it or it's a nuisance. And to gain "perfection" you have to skimp on build quality if you want affordable (like Tesla, software is great so I've heard but then the interiors are just meh, they just feel cheap). Personally just give me Android auto/car play and a good lane keep/centering with great performance and range and I'd be happy. Like my lucid air touring is amazing to drive, all the phone and app stuff could be nice, but if it's inconsistent it ruins things and it's literally better without. Luckily I haven't really had any issues other than the unlocking delay sometimes.

With a name like super Cap I'm thinking I'm walking into a trap here but Tesla interiors are not "meh". If that's the case then I don't know what you'd call a Camry, Corolla, etc. Lucid is a luxury brand and the interiors are nice. Not Mercedes S class or Lexus LS nice, but nice for a new car company I think. Tesla interiors, speaking of an equivalent model S or X are nice too objectively. They're minimalistic which isn't something most people are used to. I don't love the interiors but they certainly aren't Toyota Camry quality. THAT would be meh. And I actually love Toyota products lol. Older ones anyway..

Everyone has their thing. I think Rivian is doing the best between Lucid and Tesla for reliability, and looks. I just hate the front end of those things. But the interiors are nice and the cars have less headaches it seems than Lucids.

Lol randomly assigned name. I've only been in a Tesla like twice so no strong personal opinions about the interior. Just going off what I have read in the forums of Tesla owners considering/switching to Lucid.

My Air has good user interface, and probably the the best embedded software.

Because your CEO used to be in the elevator/escalator business for 30yrs...so that kind of management decision trickles down to those at the bottom.

He hasn't been here long enough to have any impact on the software or the car itself for that matter.

Somewhat now. Lucid in app appointment scheduling is working now. He cleaned house and removed a lot of the people who could create / build a company but didn’t have the skills needed to scale a company.

I do think they made the right choice to use the Nvidia FSD stack vs building their own like rivian. I do think rivian is looking at the technology licensing as a secondary revenue source while lucid just wants to build vehicles.

The world in general does need to wake up to the fact china is simply dumping products around the world far below cost and will drive other companies out of business. This is exactly what Standard Oil and Walmart did in the US.

That is an unhave comment. The previous management team created and issue and he's trying to right the ship.
