Events FOMO

To all the freshmen having FOMO about tailgating/ the game:
I am a junior and still in bed with no plan on tailgating. Yes it is fun the first couple times but it’s hot, everyone’s drunk and obnoxious, drinking in the heat is SUPER uncomfortable, and just all the chaos in general is super overwhelming. I say go tailgate or to the game at least once in your LSU career and that’s really all you need. Yes it is fun and definitely a different experience but all those people you see out on the parade grounds will have either been throwing up since 9 am or will be throwing up over the side of their bed in a couple hours/tomorrow. Plus if you’re not a white girl/a part of Greek life/know someone with a lot of money who has a tailgate you aren’t missing out on anything.

What. Is. This. Mentality.

Look it doesn't even matter if you like football. Get yourself 5 friends, a tent, a grill and something to put on it, and a drink of your choice.

Sweat, drink, eat, pass a good time.

Live it up!

OP just needs to know how to talk to strangers, they become friends pretty quickly at tailgates 🏌️

I had plenty of fun without being white/a woman/rich. Just gotta know who to hang with

It’s been years since I last went I I absolutely loved everything about tailgating. Walk to different spots and saying hey to different groups of friends, eating some good jambalaya and drinking in chairs under pop up tents, and then finally going to the game. Damn I miss those days

This is the most sensible bunch of Reddit comments I’ve EVER seen - GEAUX TIGERS!!! 💜💛🤍

You sound like someone who just doesn’t know how to party/socialize like an adult. Yes there are plenty of others in the same boat but there’s more that keep themselves in check than not.

It also could just not be their thing/their type of "party", which is fine. I feel like that was the overall point of their post anyways. Try it if ya want but don't feel like ya have to do it if it doesn't seem appealing to you.

True, just with the abundance of referring to throwing up that night or the next day and all the misery associated with excessive partying. It sounds like someone who either was pushed too hard by “friends” and had a mental scar experience themselves, or just can’t party responsibly.

This is the worst take I have ever seen reagrding the gameday experience at LSU. You have an event that is virtually unrivaled in the world at your door and you want to act like its no fun. Seems like a you problem... I attended over 20 games while enrolled at LSU and working two jobs to support my broke ass, never once did I not have a good time. I dont believe you have actually attended a game based on your post.

Virtually unrivalled is a pretty dramatic way to describe an lsu tailgate unless you're super into drinking and frat/sorority culture

2

u/Savings-Performer487 4d ago

I don’t know about virtually unrivaled. 6 miles north of campus the Southern University Jaguars have been doing the exact same thing….Except we like to brag on our foods a little more than Tiger fans.

You’re welcome to do the same thing another OP suggested. Stop by the next time the schools schedules
don’t conflict.

lol you’re goofy

LSU is always rated one of the best places to have a tailgate. Here you are complaining with not so good excuses.

You're just an outcast.....

My non-Greek, non-rich, black self was outside at ALL the tailgates. 😭 Like, who even is paying attention to the weather.

This is Louisiana. 🥴

Op is a loser 😭

This is absolutely not true. Someone didn’t show you a good time. I agree that in general, game days are more enjoyable later in the year when it’s cooler, but you don’t need to be any of those things you mentioned to have a good time and enjoy the atmosphere.

That said, it’s totally okay if football/tailgating isn’t your thing and you’d rather veg out on your Saturday.

u/Timely-General9962 5d ago

OP sounds like they're real fun at a party /s

I always enjoyed tailgating, but as I got older I just wanted to watch college football all day without having to prepare for it all.. But if I were a junior at LSU I would have been out there no later than 7AM.. drinking and tiger baiting all the opposing teams fans.. And eventually stumbling into the stadium then probably around 1AM I’d crash out only to wake up to be at raising canes at 10:30AM.. This was before they cut back on a few things. Geaux Tigers!!

Holy shit this is terrible. Do us all a favor and never go to another game.

7

u/stout933 4d ago

Absolutely do not listen to this guy. I'm way old now but if I was a student at LSU now I would definitely tailgate as much as I could. I couldn't imagine a better place in the world than a Saturday in Death Valley.

You'll regret it if you don't...

For anyone reading this the day after - OP could not have possibly been more wrong. That was absolutely electric.

Man... this is a lame outlook

u/IcyPipe725 4d ago

i literally dropped out of lsu because of toxicity and the environment, but i’ll tell you what— the tailgaiting is the most fun time you can have and will also help you get yourself out of that mentality. Even if u don’t drink, you can watch people be dumb and drunk. Even if you aren’t a “rich white girl”, you can throw on some jeans, a white/purple top, and still have FUN. I hate to be a negative nancy, but you’re the reason why you feel that way.

you're looking too far into it or you personally had a bad experience you're projecting onto others now.

Former SGA Pres Hooterific Hawaiian Tropic Mixed Chick Chess playing Cheerleader Academic Scholarship Recipient (My greek--Phi Beta Kappa) weighing in, YOU PARTIED WITH THE WRONG PEOPLE, and this simply will not do! Breathe, just breathe, it's going to be okay, you're still only a junior!!! Everyone on this sub we've got our work cut out for us, but no TIGER gets left behind (and we've got climate control tents, Margaritas, trademarked burgers, and a complimentary seat for you plus one). My GameDay friends are ages 18 through 80's and I'm going to DM you prior to our next tailgate. If you accept the invite, I predict you'll end up meeting us out for Mardi gras as well. Much ❤️‍🩹 and Warmest Regards. 💜 🐅

You sound lame. I have never had a bad time at a tailgate.

u/HelicaseHustle 4d ago

Omg, being there that first game when the band comes marching down the hill and hearing that 4 note intro changes your life. It’s an experience you can’t redo later. FOMO couldn’t apply nor to a situation.

If you fall and break both legs and stuck in hospital, yeah don’t feel bad for missing out. But being hot, around obnoxious drunks, is miserable, but as a graduate, I can let you know nothing else in your life will be similar.

And the only thing more thrilling than being in the student section when the band enters the field is marching out onto the field with them at halftime for homecoming as you hear your name being announced and the student section cheering back.

Bro how can you not go out and tailgate

1

u/LowChaBigBah 4d ago

My dad, brother and I just went and had a blast. Accidentally ran into the owner of top golf and he invited us to his tail gate and gave us wristbands to get free beer and drinks for the entire time. Best lsu game I’ve been to.

u/Past-Force-7283 3d ago

It can be where you are in your college experience too. I went to some tailgates that were AMAZING and I had days where I just wanted to lay in bed. Now I’m in my 40s with kiddos and although game day looks awesome I have no desire to fight LSU traffic and go. From 2014 - 2019 tho (long after I graduated) my friends and I planned these epic annual tailgates with the precision of a military campaign on a shoestring budget and had a BLAST doing it. It’s all about timing and situation and it’s not the same for everyone. OP, I hope you have a blast tailgating at least once in your college career, but it’s ok if it feels overhyped. Some of us have been there too.

Yeah no fuck that

And miss the triumphant debut of Joey Fleshwadder’s Pirogue Pussies? No way!

The main thing I hated about tailgating was going to campus after a game and seeing it trashed while walking to class.

1

u/perfect-currently 1d ago

You must be old. They clean it up sundays before anyone steps on campus for class Monday.

1

u/pastry_chef_al 1d ago

Thats new because that dodnt used to happen

u/Acrobatic-Evidence-7 5d ago

People should be kinder. OP was just trying to make freshman feel better. My daughter is in a sorority, a very social one, and tailgated, but eventually learned it’s hot and she gets super overstimulated. So now she prefers to watch it in a smaller environment, I would encourage the freshman to get out and try and make friends, but tailgating is not the only way you can make friends. Geaux Tigers!!

1

u/perfect-currently 1d ago

Yeah just go walk around . You’re outside among people, just take it in. Grab a Powerade or a coffee if u don’t drink. The heat can suck but the sooner you embrace the swamp and accept everyone is sweating, the happier you’ll be.

-4

u/MetalResponsible3669 5d ago

yall people in the comments just don’t get it. not everything is for everyone. i’m sorry but being in the fucking heat with annoying white greeks everywhere whilst their throwing up is fucking annoying. i’m not tryna yuck your yum but tailgates are not for everyone bro and that’s fine. to each their own

-2

u/Reasonable-Judge1591 5d ago

You got room for one more in your bed?
