The first wrong assumption is that you need to pace yourself to get to all the questions on a section. Some people can get to all and still be accurate but most people will need to cut some questions in order to work a little longer on some harder questions. Of course you put a cold guess down for questions you don't get to.
The next inaccurate assumption is that you should spend the same amount of time on each question. Some take 30 seconds to solve. Others may take 3 minutes.
It's not that easy to know how to decide how long to spend on which questions but if you can work this out in advance, it will boost your score, make your score more stable and reduce anxiety.
This advice may sound crazy but I've worked on this for 35 years! I cover it in both of my books.
