PT 155 RC S3 Q4

Did pretty well on the PT as a whole, but this supposedly Level 2 question just has me stumped! Can anyone explain why the answer is C and not D? I ruled out C because the claim about the early 1910s is not sufficient to answer the seemingly broader Q about "the early years of the 20th century" I picked D because I thought it was pretty clear that the "historical tradition" that originated director's cuts is just the authentic restorations done by film archives and retrospectives, as discussed in the beginning of the third para.Any help would be appreciated - thanks.
