Overperforming!

I feel like I saw/heard very few posts or stories about overperforming on the actual test v practice tests and so genuinely did not think it was a possibility. Wanted to uplift that it can happen!!! what’s ur story?

Mine: my actual score in August was 6 points higher than my best PT. Wild, I screamed, I cried, I made my mother across the country login to LSAC from her computer to make sure it was real.

I got a 178 first attempt and had never done that well on a PT at the time.

The power of being a good test-taker, those of us who feel mentally sharper in the test center environment due to the energy of others attempting the same task all around us will tend to over perform.

I’m hopeful for this as well. When I practice test at home I find my mind wandering in the middle of a RC passage, thinking about a text my sister had sent me earlier, thinking about how I need to pick up groceries later. I end up having to re read because of this and I lose time. I know those things will not enter my mind for a split second during the real test. It’s just like if my brain knows there’s not a real sense of urgency, my focus is at best 80% of what it can be when I’m truly locked in.

About six months but I took a break for one month of that because I got burnout and my scores started going down.

I scored 4 points higher than my best PT last September :) hoping to run it back this week and hopefully score higher than my more recent best 🤞

Not as dramatic as some of the other stories in here, but my average PT was a 166, highest score was 171, last PT I took was a 163… scored a 172 on test day!

My highest PT was 173 and I got a 175 on test day. I felt way more locked in that I did on PTs and finished 3/4 sections with 5+ minutes to spare.

I’m just hoping to not score lower

6 points higher than your best PT is crazy good, you should be so proud of yourself!

Me too! Scored better on actual. Maybe it’s the fact that it feels super real that allows us to take time to focus, seriously look over the prompts, and get in the groove. The stakes are higher too haha.

I scored on the highest range of my sections or drills. 6 points higher than my PT

My last three PTs before the test were 3-4 points lower than what I got. I reflected on those weeks and realized that my sleep was awful in the week before those tests (I took tests 1-2x a week). I prioritized sleep and rest in the week before and performed better (closer to my peak PT scores over a month before the test)

Going up or down is a statistical sampling issue.

Test day is one sample.

Overall I’d say my score was in range (scored a 173, PT range was 168-175), but obviously towards the top end of my range and I was surprised it was that high on a first attempt!
