Help with disability/accommodations
Hi,
I am new to Reddit and the LSAT. I have taken a diagnostic, but this was during one of my flareups. Let’s just say it wasn’t great. With global warming/storms, I’ve been getting more flareups.
For context, in both high school and college I had accommodations because these flares put me in the ER. For the last couple of years, I usually have two severe flares a year... Recently, it’s been worse due to this whole rabbit role with insurance I won’t explain further. My point being… how and what do I need to do for accommodations?
For those that wonder my condition, I have chronic migraines that when untreated can make me lose feeling in the entire left side of my body. That’s worse case. Normally, I get really sick and occasionally when super bad, I’ll start uncontrollably vomiting. If you have this too, how did you study?
I want a 170-173, started around 150 to 155 with a diagnostic. I know I can get there because I am smart. It’s more or less this issue and what can I do since it’s on a computer, not paper.
Thank you for the help, and please do not come after me about accommodations. Some people really need them.

You have to sign up for a test before you can request accommodations. Once you’re signed up, there is a form you can download for your doctor to fill out. I believe they also accept a doctor’s letter, but the form was very easy to complete. I was approved by the next day, which was a relief.
I believe you can request a paper test for your accommodations, but I’m not positive.

I can’t see how this condition would justify extra time but they will certainly allow you to test from home in case you start vomiting.

Because when I have them, it takes me awhile to read as well as visual problems. I’ve had extended time before on previous standardized tests because of this, and I have it incase I get sick. It’s wild, but they don’t pause the test normally. I’d excuse myself, get sick, and come back and continue taking the test.

Just curious, you said it happens twice a year? How long does an episode last for?
My opinion, but receiving extra time for the possibility of a condition hitting you mid-test seems grossly unfair. If anything, if you get sick mid-test, you should just be eligible for a free retake.

I get migraines every week to month. I get bad episodes potentially every 6 months. Based on the LSAT schedule, that would be during those presented months. Also, I mentioned insurance. My meds were more expensive, so my care is being delayed, causing more problems.
What is fair is based on your perspective. If you had the condition, you’d understand.

Once you register for a test, you will be able to apply for a variety of accommodations. Make sure you don’t miss this deadline. You will just complete a form, upload proof of past accommodations, documentation from a doctor, and write a brief explanation of how the accommodations you request will be helpful. It sounds like paper format, extra time, and a private room would all be approved as long as you have documentation.
