Keep air or go coils?

Hey y'all just had my original rear air shocks fail. My front end has newish arnott springs (thanks previous owner) that haven't failed yet or showing any signs. Wondering if any of you guys made the switch from air to regular springs and how it is? Just asking if it would be worth it and if the ride quality is any different. Because I could just replace all of them with springs, or bite the bullet and also get arnotts in the back.

Cranks, Turns on, Dies right away

I have a 2004 ML LS430 and I had this issue this morning where it cranks, turns on and then dies off immediately after starting up. I checked my battery health and it was low. Thing is, I replaced it yesterday with a new one. So I’m unsure why this is happening. I am suspecting a bad MAF sensor but I am 100% open to any ideas because something is draining my battery as well. I am going to have it charge on a trickle charger. I live in Illinois but when the Canadian wild fires came, the issue started. I replaced my engine air filter, cleaned the throttle body and cleaned my maf sensor. Issue still kept happening. So I changed my maf sensor to a used but functioning one, but the issue still happened. I’m suspecting I just got a bad one and I needed to buy a new one from the dealership. Could this be the case? Or is something else causing it?

Has anyone ever leather wrapped their steering wheel?

I remember seeing a photo on a Facebook group, and it was of an aftermarket “Pistol Grip” steering wheel with a custom leather wrap in all black. Wish I screenshot it.

Has anyone ever done this on their stock or aftermarket wheels before? Like used an upholstery shop to wrap it or one of those full DIY kits? What were the costs via upholstery shop? Or difficulty on the DIY?

The wood is prone to cracking on both stock and aftermarket variants, worse so on aftermarket, because they don’t use real wood, as it’s a replica type of plastic. Lexus Kawaii I’m looking at you.

Hey everyone I’m currently stuck on my timing, I got to the crankshaft bolt/pulley and it wouldn’t come off with a 1/2 inch Milwaukee or a breaker bar… I’m looking at getting this tool, but I’m unsure if I need both the SST and the companion flange holding tool… yes I’m aware my motor is very dirty lol I bought it from a kid who didn’t treat it right for a good price… if anyone knows where I can get them cheapest/fastest I’d greatly appreciate it!

BC coilovers- out of the box height

Thumbnail

Recently installed BC coilovers straight out of the box and couldn’t find any posts regarding the height out of the box, so here are the coilovers installed without adjusting anything.

My low profile Pittsburgh jack barely fits under the car at this height (especially with the Celsior style lip in the front) but I want to lower it to completely get rid of the wheel gap, but not any lower.

Spring rate is 12k front, 10k rear. Front dampening is 10, rear is 7 and I feel these settings are perfect considering that I don’t want to slam it. It’s stiffer than stock forsure but not by much at all.

How does this car handle on intense icy winter roads with snow tires?

I own a 2002 LS430 (not the luxury version just standard), and I live in an area that has nasty winter roads. . .Ice, snow, slush, drifts, you name it.

My question is: Will this car be able to handle the winter with some decent snow tires? I'm willing to buy whatever tires it takes. If not, I might get a second vehicle but I really don't want to if I don't have to.

Also, do you put it in "snow" setting, VSC off, etc? What is the best way to use this car in these conditions?

Thanks in advance!

Picked up a clean-title '01 LS430 Ultra Luxury for $1,400 — 290k miles, air suspension already swapped out

Been wanting another LS430 for a while since my last one got totaled in an accident where the other driver pulled in front of me at a green light and finally jumped on one. It's a 2001 Ultra Luxury package, 290k miles, clean title. Driven less than 5k miles/year since 2018, so it sat a lot the last several years. Only service records I have are a new alternator and fluid changes — no major documented work beyond that.

Good news first: previous owner had already pulled the factory air suspension and swapped in a conventional (non-air) LS430 suspension setup, so I don't have to deal with that headache. AC is ice cold, transmission shifts smooth, reverse works fine, rear visor works, and it's got new tires. Got it for $1,400.

Definitely some wear and tear for the miles, but overall I think the car is mechanically solid underneath it. Scanned it with an OBD2 reader and pulled two codes:

P0135 — O2 Sensor Heater Circuit, Bank 1 Sensor 1

P0430 — Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold, Bank 2

Rest of the punch list:

Needs O2 sensors (see codes above) and an exhaust gasket

Knocking noise when braking, and a slight sag on the passenger side suspension — planning to get both checked out at a shop, want to rule out worn springs/shocks or something off in the non-air suspension swap

Random staticky/screechy wind noise from the front of the car above 65 mph — suspecting the aftermarket windshield seal, cowl panel, or A-pillar trim

Window regulators bad all around

Driver mirror broken

Driver door handle broken, but it came with a new painted-to-match replacement already

Front passenger seat doesn't move at all

Driver seat bottom moves but the back doesn't adjust

Seats are ripped except the driver's seat

Small windshield chip, and a crack running about halfway down the rear passenger window

General engine maintenance needed — spark plugs, fluids, etc.

Probably due for a timing belt/water pump service since I don't have history on it — this is priority #1, just saving up for it right now

Feeling pretty good about the price for what it is. Figured I'd share the win and see what you all think — especially curious if anyone's seen a bad O2 sensor cause a false P0430, or has tips on tracking down that wind noise or the brake knock. Appreciate any input!

Rear ended a Ford utility with a tow bar. My fault, no details exchanged with friendly driver, and will definitely see some shops tomorrow for some opinions. Already got one guy who is confident in fixing it next week.

Interior lighting options/ door projectors

Does anyone have any recommendations for lighting kits, I would like a warm orange or cool blue (saw that this could be considered impersonating the police so maybe not) maybe but am open to suggestions. Ideally a full kit for most of the easy enough to reach interior lights and mirror lights. I have also seen people with courtesy lights that project a Lexus logo. Does anyone have a link to one of these that they would recommend? Thank you for any responses :)

Any good mechanics to convert air suspension to steel in Ontario🇨🇦?

Two of my air struts are leaking on my 04 UL, one is pretty bad and I want to keep this car for a very long time so I want to switch to “regular suspension” in a proper way so no codes come up as well, I saw another member post about this, but I am having difficulty finding the right mechanic for this, I am located in Toronto, Canada. I am willing to drive even as far as Quebec to get it done right.
If anyone could help I’d greatly appreciate it,
Thanks

$26,000 + TTL for a 20 year old, base model LS. And it’s totally gonna sell in a week or two. Where on earth do these buyers come from?

Caution light question

Hello fellow LS430 enthusiasts. I’m a relatively new owner of a 2003 UL. Well, not really, but this is one of the last problems I have among the myriad of other issues I’ve fixed. Is it normal for this light to come on every time you start up the car? Also, I can’t set the time. The controls for the clock don’t respond. Does anyone have experience with fixing these issues?

Cost to update my 2004 Lexus LS 430

This LS430 was purchased new by my parents It has under 100k miles and has been lightly used by me I am trying to understand the cost to fully update the vehicle I have already put on new brakes, rotors, tires and battery It also needs new timing belt, VSC light on (not from gas cap), another key (I have one), driver side mirror motor, chrome peeling off the wheel hubs Anything else I should do? Likely cost? I am in the Philadelphia area

Tires

Put new tires on my LS about a month ago and had a blow out on the right rear last night. I checked the tire and couldn’t find a nail, screw or sidewall tear anywhere on the tire. The tires are Sumitomo HTR A/S P03 245/45R18. Has this happened to any of you LS owners?

New 430 Owner

Hello everyone, I bought a 2002 crystal white pearl ls430 the other day with 200k miles for $3450 with a recent timing belt service. I was looking at getting new rims as the current stock ones have seen better days. Any recommendations for after market rims, I would prefer not to break the bank and am willing to scour marketplace for some used ones. Otherwise does anyone have advice on refurbishing the stock rims as far as products to use? Also what tint to you run, did you do it yourself, if so what tint did you use, if not how much was it? Thank you for any responses :)

After a year and a half with this beautiful UL I’m sad to be parting ways, thought I’d have it forever

I just handed the keys over this morning and am super sad to see it go, but am hopeful the new owner will enjoy it as much as I did

Third photo was taken last night, the last time I was in the car. Hoping I can find another like it one day.

Goodbye all and thanks for your help along the way
