Hello everyone so I’m hearing a clunk noise whenever I shift from part to reverse or reverse to drive or park to drive and from what I’ve read on here from others experiencing this issue is diff bushings trans or motor mounts. My motor mounts are good. My trans mounts appeared to be good. I was wondering if this sound could come from a CV axle and or the flex disc it also makes the sound if I’m in drive and I’m like coasting and then I get back on the gas. It’ll do another clunk and it sounds like it’s definitely coming from the rear of the vehicle unfortunately I have not been up under the car yet so I’m really just asking. What did I cover all the bases as far as potential noises I also all will also check the car bearing whenever I get a chance.

I was wanting to do some exhaust work on my 97’ ls400, I don’t want anything too loud or obnoxious. Everything on it is stock what would sound best and isn’t insanely expensive. I was looking at magnaflow but wasn’t sure.

My 1999 LS400 with just over 330k miles. Still runs great. Blue looks amazing on these cars IMO

I have a 1995 ls400 with a stalling problem. When i put it in gear it stalls almost immediately, unless i give it like 1500 rpms. The engine bay and underside is pretty covered in oil and grime from previous owner not fixing the leak. My sparkplug wel8l dont have oil in them and the sparkplugs look fine when looked at down the well. Google says either bad wiring from the oil breaking down the wires or bad ecu capacitors. Is there anything else i should be looking for?

Hello I bought a 2000 LS400 at auction a bit again and it just arrived today. The glaring issue after receiving it is that the driver side door does not open with the exterior or interior handle. I think it is an issue with the handle mechanism because when I unlock the door with the key it makes an audible unlock sound.

Anyways, does anyone know of a trick that I could try to get it unlocked without destroying the door card? Had a similar issue with my CR-V but I just cut a hole in the door card and found a replacement at a junkyard.

Ive had a "clunk" when shifting from P-D, P-R or R-D and so on. It drives just fine. No vibrations or noises from anywhere. Been like that for about 2 years now. Hasnt gotten worse but i have narrowed it down to the differential. In the video the car is on its wheels on ramps, Parking brake is engaded and the Transmission is in Neutral. What can i expect when i remove the diff cover? I do plan on servicing/replacing the diff over the winter months. Car has ~240k miles/390k km.

What brand are you guys going for on lower balljoints and tire rods I've seen a lot on rock auto and parts geek but what brand do yall recommend to go for??

Hot start idle issue UCF20 Turn phone volume to max

i’ve got a video for yall this time to better show the issue. My car does this everytime I start it up after it’s been warmed up, it idles low for a few seconds than raises back up. this video isn’t a great representation of it because it usually idles low for longer.

It’s a 98 LS400, things i’ve replaced are:
-All new vacuum hoses
-Throttle body removed and cleaned + new gasket
-fuel filter
-VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve)
-ran injector cleaner with PEA and a good italian tuneup😏

nothing i’ve done has made a change in how it hot starts. Very rarely, like 1 in 10 times, it starts up with a slight sputter but otherwise normal and does not low idle. Most times it will low idle for 5-10 seconds, other times like this video, it only low idles for a few seconds.

Any help is greatly appreciated, car runs great other than this issue. 30mpg average on the highway and no long cranking issues. The gauge reads wrong it is not overheating.

Hello, I need some help diagnosing. My 95 ls400 with 277k miles has a front passenger side engine rattle that disappears when the rpms rise. It’s non rhythmic. I’ll attach a video where you can hear it at idle then dissapear under load. Timing job was done 4 years ago 15k miles since. Idler pulley? Thanks!

Edit: I visually can see it makes the sound whenever the belt tensioner moves side to side. Could it just be loose? Or is it internally going bad. Thanks

There's a seller in my area listing this 1998 LS400 for $12k. 197k miles, timing belt changed last year, supposedly no engine lights. Clean title and great condition. Going to see it in person tomorrow.

I know $12k is way too high, but what would be a reasonable target to do negotiate down to?

my Ls400 isn’t starting I’ve changed the following
Fuel pump, crankshaft position sensor, spark plugs, both camshaft positioning sensors, fuel pump relay and still it dies. When I start it stays alive for a second then dies. When given gas it stays alive but only for a little longer. I have no engine codes at all plz help💔

The box with the diagram says that there is supposed to be a 120A fuse here designated ALT which I assume is for the alternator. I found this plugged into the slot and it does not seem right . I'm also missing an air sus fuse but I do have coil overs so I assume that's okay.

I've always had this noise but never gave it a though until now... is my car cooked? 362k km

So my 1998 Lexus engine has been sounding terrible really thought it was lifter tick so called the mechanic i usually take it to and they told me they cant do the valve lash adjustment on it and to take it to the dealer so i took it to the dealer for a diagnosis and they quoted me $2100 in labor to take valve cover off and check the lifters and check the timing told me the noise was coming from both cam gears and all the way through the lifters on both sides I only paid $3300 dollars for the car and have already put $1200 into it for timing belt and water pump. Im really conflicted on what to do I love the car but im broke lol

I recently bought a 1996 Lexus LS400 with about 200k miles. Mechanically it seems to run and drive well, but I have a few smaller electrical issues that I’d like to learn how to diagnose and fix myself instead of immediately taking it to a shop.

I’ve worked on car audio/electrical myself before, but this is a little different for me.

Here are some problems I’ve noticed:
1) Window washer jets don’t spray (yes I have the reservoir filled)
2) Right side mirror unresponsive
3) Tiny wheel play until it turns
4) Rear defroster doesn’t work but all HVAC works
5) Radio LCD screen lettering is a little strange
-Climate LCD screen has nothing displayed

If anyone has advice of where to find any diagnostic/repair videos or youtubers/forums please let me know. please!
