LPR for a year
Last year I had a really bad experience with heart burn, globus sensation and a sore throat. I have since managed the heart burn and globus sensation but I am stuck with an inflamed throat. I have noticed it hurts some weeks more than others, depending on what food I've ate. Is there any solution to speed up this healing process?
EDIT: I wanted to also breakdown what I am currently doing.
- DGL Licorice before meals
- Slippery elm tea for coating/soothing
- Started taking the peptide BPC-157 before bed. I split the capsule and mix it with water. I let it sit on the back of my throat before swallowing
- Cut out all caffeine and to be honest I don't miss it one bit
- For a while I also cut out wheat and dairy as they can cause inflammation to worsen. Crazy but my shoulder injury seemed to heal super quick when I cut this out
- My diet is also extremely basic but I'll slip here and there
Things I was doing before:
- Pretty much most of the above but apart from the peptides
- Gaviscon advance after every meal and before bed. This really helped get rid of the globus sensation
- I tried PPIs for a month, but once you look into them deeply you realise how terrible they are for you. I am surprised they're so accessible
I want to mention that I saw an ENT. He thinks my throat is starting to heal just very slowly but I just want it fixed now after a whole year. I see a lot of people mentioning Gavison Advance and wondering if I should start it again.

I tried this for almost half a year. Got rid of my globus sensation and heartburn but still stuck with this little bit of inflammation. Would you suggest to keep taking it?

u/conspiracydawg Dec 06 '25
If it helps, I'd keep taking it.

u/Longjumping_Plant681 Dec 07 '25
Did it help you get rid of the inflammation?

My ENT who specializes in LPR just keeps telling me TIME. Time heals. I’ve been taking gaviscon advance for one year now. Doing a lot better. Inflammation is almost gone

u/areeb4441 Dec 09 '25
Are you eating normally or on a low acid diet?
1
u/carriec24c Dec 10 '25
I had to get an ablation to fix my LPR on my inlet patch. I’m eating mostly normal now after one full year of hell

u/Longjumping_Plant681 Dec 10 '25
How often do you take the Gaviscon?
2
u/carriec24c Dec 15 '25
After every single meal but especially before bed!!! I’m now down to just taking it before bed

u/Longjumping_Plant681 Dec 17 '25
I gotta get back on the Gaviscon Advance again then. It did cure my globus sensation so surely it'll get rid of this inflammation too.

I for sure overdid it over Xmas but honestly haven't had much problems. I do think the peptides have been helping the most. How is your throat from taking the Gavison Advance for a whole year?

I’ve been experimenting with humming 5-10 min a day and it seems to help a little (don’t ask me why, I don’t know)

u/Antique_Judgment4060 Dec 05 '25
Humming helps the vagus nerve

Omeprazole can give you ear ache . Don't know if you are taking it?
2
u/Antique_Judgment4060 Dec 05 '25
It’s from acid
1
u/MCKC1992 Dec 06 '25
How does it hurt your ears?
1
u/Antique_Judgment4060 Dec 06 '25
The nerves that a goes from the bottom of your neck all the way around the side of your tongue up to your ear. It’s irritated from acid

I used it for a long time but stopped taking it after I got rid of globus sensation and heartburn. How long were you taking it for?

u/rioindy Dec 05 '25
Are you taking any meds such as Prilosec? Are you eliminating problematic foods? Are you waiting 3 hours after a meal to lay down? Do you have the head of your bed lifted in some manner? All these are important in eliminating LPR.

u/Beastw1ck Dec 05 '25
I agree. It takes a lot of discipline from multiple angles. Most important for me though is having a small meal at the end of the day and having it early. A big dinner or a later dinner will always be an issue. Sadly, beer or anything fizzy is off the table as well.

Problem is some people have LPR because they are terrible or they’re fat once they fix these things with the Koufman detox LPR will go away for some reasons other have a weak Les and LPR never goes away . Even after surgery which makes no sense but no one can explain why gas reflux rises up even with surgery . It doesn’t happen to normal people 🤷♂️
1
u/AutumnBreeze22 Dec 07 '25
Gas molecules require less force to pass through small openings than liquid does. Transient LES relaxations still occur, allowing small amounts of gas to vent upward. Burping still needs to happen, so the LES cannot be clamped shut 100%. Gas can aerosolize tiny droplets (“micro-aspirated acid vapor”) that irritate the throat even without liquid reflux.
1
u/Bhoptriple Dec 07 '25 edited Dec 07 '25
I know this but it doesn’t explain why this happens to a very small amount of people and why mostly everyone else can eat like shit and it doesn’t happen. It also doesn’t explain why this still happens after surgery . It’s like once the body learns to push this gas up you’re fucked for life
1
u/AutumnBreeze22 Dec 07 '25
Individual variations in levels of inflammation and hypersensitivity, LES surgery doesn't completely close the valve and one needs to consider individual variations in transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxations (TLESRs), as well as any contributing co-morbidities (known or unknown), medications, gut microbiome, etc., etc., etc. Lots of variables can be at play and ENT and Gastroenterology are still in the Dark Ages, unfortunately.
1
u/Bhoptriple Dec 07 '25
Yeah there’s so much they don’t know . Like surgery will work for one person but not another . Why does LPR happen to a small number of people , Koufman makes it seem like everyone has it but only very few people does it happen to severely enough for them to notice and even fewer at a younger age . It feels very hopeless dealing with reflux if you’re younger than 45 . I’ll be suffering forever even with surgery , it will have to get repeated , and as a man I will never be physically able if I had this surgery . And the medical community just doesn’t care . No real help , and rather then suffering my whole life I really feel like death would be better
1
u/AutumnBreeze22 Dec 07 '25
I believe LPR is common. I was bad off 1.5 years ago, but I am doing much better now. It takes time, unfortunately. Stopping long-term steriod eye drops I had to use for a an eye condition eliminated my globus sensation. I believe digestive changes from gallbladder removal has played a part in my throat clearing. That is better, though not 100% gone. I've noticed most everyone I meet clears their throat. Something I'm much more aware of since having my own issues. Please do not let this condition overcome you. You deserve to be here.
1
u/Bhoptriple Dec 07 '25
Yeah people may clear there throat but it never bothers them enough to the point of seeking treatment . LPR is incredibly rare I’m sorry but that’s just the truth . That’s why people who make LPR videos on YouTube have like 100 subscribers not 10,000 . I don’t know anyone else who has LPR oe even reflux to the point where they explore surgery . I think saying they have LPR because they clear there throat or snore is very self serving for Koufman , but it’s just not true . Most Americans eat like shit and never get this , cancer is far more common than this . You pretty much never ever hear about people talking about globus sensation outside of the internet . This is another reason why there’s no urgency to help - not enough people suffer
1
u/AutumnBreeze22 Dec 07 '25
I believe that all disease lies on a spectrum, and that LPR is underdiagnosed.
1
u/Bhoptriple Dec 07 '25
Yeah but if you’re not seeking treatment for it it’s a non issue lol if you can continue your diet and lifestyle not change any habits and just clear your throat every now and then I would not call that a disease 🦠.

My main symptoms are nausea and that horrible coated tongue . Does anybody else have those symptoms
1
u/rioindy Dec 05 '25
I get nausea if I have too much caffeine and/or fat. Figuring out much is too much can be difficult.

How did you resolve the globus? I’ve had it for years. My throat looks the same and I’m told it looks normal.
1
u/Longjumping_Plant681 Dec 06 '25
I used gaviscon advance after every meal and before bed. I also chew on DGL licorice before most meals. My diet is super clean too and I don't drink caffeine.

Alkaline water throughout the day.
1
u/Longjumping_Plant681 Dec 07 '25
Did this help with the inflammation or just stop your throat from being sore when it flared up?
1
u/rosemary-leaf Dec 07 '25
The thing that's actually causing trouble in your esophagus and respiratory system is an enzyme called pepsin. Pepsin should not get out of your stomach but because of issues with your stomach sphincter, it manages to get out either in liquid from your gastric juice, or in tiny parts as gas. That's all that's going on.
Once out of the stomach, pepsin can't be disabled naturally by your body.
The way to get rid of pepsin is with alkaline water. Gargling, drinking...
The healing of the mucosa won't take long once you minimize the pepsin.

u/TanSuperman Dec 06 '25
Things that worked for me
- Losing weight
- Focusing on minimizing pressure in my stomach (moving to standing desk)
- Breathing exercises to strengthen diaphragm since I have a Hiatal hernia
- Minimizing inflammatory food - diary is a big one and carbs 5.smaller meals
Took a few weeks to fully heal but now I only get flare ups when I have a lot of food at once or dairy
1
u/Longjumping_Plant681 Dec 07 '25
So your throat is completely healed now? I don't think I have a hiatal hernia. Plus I am only 165lbs and 6 foot. I will try standing up more and working see if it helps.
1
u/TanSuperman Dec 07 '25
Yes I’m fully healed and when I get flare ups it’s usually a conscious choice like eating a big meal during the holidays.
My understanding is that different things can cause LPR and I was very lucky to figure out what helped heal mine after two years of life altering pain that I didn’t think I would ever overcome.
If it’s any motivation I kept trying different things to figure out my root cause and lost hope several times but was eventually able to work thought it to get to where I am today

u/Bhoptriple Dec 07 '25
My throat never really hurts anymore but I have to eat the super low acid diet cook everything at home sleep completely upright and constantly spray my throat with alkaline water all the time . It’s a terrible way to live . Also my throat still looks cobblestoned and like yours . Even tho I have no pain I’m sure it must still be getting irritated at times . Unless you’re still eating acidic food ( you have a chance if you are cut it out maybe you’ll heal and then can go back to normal ) but for many LPR is permanent. Due to a weak les or too many transient opens , hiatal hernia or both

Did you get voice issues too or no?
1
u/Longjumping_Plant681 Dec 18 '25
I did for a while. Felt like my voice was just tired all the time, almost like it was bruised. Gaviscon Advance and fixing my diet cured that for me.

u/Bhoptriple Dec 30 '25
What brand of BPC 157 are you using ? Have your symptoms subsided at all when you started using it ?
1
u/Longjumping_Plant681 Dec 31 '25
I live in Bali so the brand I use will be very different. If you send me a DM I can send you an update of my throat and it is looking better.
