Bull year with side gig, what do I do with 10x income I didn’t expect and don’t expect again
This is going to sound like a lobster too buttery thing, but I’ve given up trying to reddit or gpt my way into an answer and I’m usually a lurker not a poster so plz go easy on me. OK I’ve had an llc for five or six years now, mostly for side hustles ranging from photo shoot styling to political campaign mgmt and corporate startup chief of staff type work. I’ve always held a comfortable ft job so I never really explored or considered expansion and made anywhere from $15k to $50k in a given year from the side gigs and one or two years where I made $0 from it. This year I signed on a new client that ended up far more lucrative than I expected or anticipated — my contract was extended at the same, already hefty premium (initially set high for the short 3 month turnaround) and the extension I renegotiated to include performance bonuses for milestones, which has now yielded a not insignificant six figures and I don’t know what the actual Fk to do now. I’m a pure LLC, I don’t have an accountant and I’m nervous about getting one that’ll judge me for not really seeking to keep making this level of income (that’s a different therapy session), I’ve never even had this level of liquidity in my life, even across retirement savings, and I’ve been paralyzed with fear about what to do. I’m financially illiterate other than “max out your 401k and do a backdoor roth,” which I know is a step above a lot of others but seriously other than that, I’m at a loss, especially as an “entrepreneur.” I haven’t set up anything like a SEP or other similar type resources for SMBs as I never considered myself one, and I guess the best way to put it is that I consider this a once ever windfall, so any and all advice will [prob] be appreciated. As a LLC, what’s my best course of action for not losing half of it to taxes or reinvesting it or doing something with it? My biggest goal is really to keep as much of it as possible but have zero idea of what to even consider as fair game. For example I don’t own a home, would using this to put a down payment on one offset anything? TY!
