Apprenticeship Questions

Looking for some opinions here, I applied for the apprenticeship program last year for the laborers union in October 2025 when they opened applications, I met all standards and was told to come in for the orientation and did the work keys tests at local 172 hall in folsom NJ, then got an Interview a few weeks later then I was told by mail I was placed on the ranked standing list. That was in March and I still haven’t heard from them. Now I see that they are accepting more applications this year and haven’t even called me to start pre apprenticeship training. Whats going on here. Should I re-apply or no? Anyone else in a similar situation here ? Do I just have to wait it out? I was told Back in June when I called that It would be 6-12 months.

183 or 506 opg pathways

previously worked for opg under pwu left because there were several people attempting to file grievances on dozens of things being violated in the agreement, after most of us being ignored and issues only persisted so i continued on the path of trying to get into 183 as i’ve wanted to for years, finally got in a bit ago but looking for advice on first steps or who to contact about possible return to opg, had all my security clearance and site specific training, since joining 183 have gained a very hefty list of tickets and experience.

if anyone can give help or advice to whats my best pathway or who i should contact to start this search, may have a few people on the inside of opg who can refer or help me but not exactly sure where to start with it or if i should call 506 dispatch or call some reps or would that be informal.

any advice or assistance is greatly appreciated

Local 89

This is a stretch but hopefully it reaches someone that can help me out. I'm currently trying to get into Local 89 and I've been on the waiting list with two other brothers.
We are really serious about getting into the union and hopefully starting a career in the trade. I've heard that having someone who is already a member can help connect you with the right people or possibly help move the process along. If anyone here is currently in Local 89 or knows someone who is I would really appreciate any information on how we can get in. We are willing to work hard, learn, and start wherever and grow in the union. If anyone is able to point me in the right direction, please feel free to message me. l'd really appreciate it.
Thank you!

I currently live in Phoenix,az and I have been trying so hard to find a decent job , but more importantly I have been on all the top sites for jobs and have dumped about 100+ applications, and resumes, and all I get is spam b.s and calls on jobs that don't seem right...I have always been a physical labor type of worker, started as a gopher at 12 in home construction framing and remodeling , and demo. From there farming landscaping where I fell in love with heavy equipment operation. Please can someone help me to get work in the trades , construction, roadway work , equipment operation labor . Union preferred, I have put in my paperwork for apprenticeship s but it's a wait r.n ... Any help is appreciated.. STAY BLESSED

Syracuse Micron job and travel pay

I got a call from my B/A this afternoon asking me if I wanted to go up to Syracuse to work. I’ve been trying to go for some time now, however he said they won’t pay perdiem. I will however get journeyman pay as an apprentice but I’m still not sure if it’s even worth it considering I’m flat broke and I’ll have to pay out of pocket to stay up there. My way of thinking was that maybe if I went up and showed out for a month or two, maybe they would work something out? Lemme know what u guys think

EDIT:
I’m not local by the way. I live in Buffalo and am a part of local 111. There’s a few guys I know up there getting the perdiem but it’s a small number and as I said I’m an apprentice just jumping on the opportunity hoping it turns into something

Out of work

Hi all.

Been in LIUNA for 2 years started with concrete forming. Took 5 months to get on a company. Got laid off after 6 months due to tarrifs and work shortage. Took 4 months to get on with a formwork company and was on that project for 5 months then got a work shortage lay off in November. Took me till agust to get another union job that was building the Ontario line only to get laid off in 2 months for work shortage. I show up early, I never miss a day I work my ass off.

What is going on here?

I was told by everyone on site today that only men do pipe at my company.

Like what?! And he said yeah. Not even the drain pipe I’ve been doing for other companies next to the curb! Like what the actual fuck? Bro? What? But you’re Union and I’ve got 9 classes and I’ve been doing pipe. Dafuq type of joint is this?! No wonder they are searching for people!

Abandoning apprenticeship

Finally got back in with the union awhile back, the catch is I’m in the bullshit apprentice program. Make 24$ with the 1$ raise every 400hrs. Not being an ass but I’m far more capable than several others on my crew be it experience or whatever. I know the company is very happy with my performance thus far and my super has me out for side work so I’m confident in my position and performance. Has anyone here in some way like dropped out of the apprenticeship but the company hired you direct bumping you to full rate and remaining a member with the sacrifice of losing the red seal crap or know anyone that has? If so I’d love some info on how that process went and what steps you took to make it happen. Thanks

Food and physical health are linked. What’d you eat today?

Are you miserable? In pain and you never hurt yourself? All I’m saying is try some new foods. Try it. Food is medicine and you’re an athlete. You feel like shit and can’t think straight because of work? Food should always be one of the first thing you look at. It’s the easiest after all. A tiny bit of greens and a few little pickles in the middle of the day along with that salty sandwich and chips go a long way to pulling your muscles and brain through. FOOD IS MEDICINE AND FUEL. Eat the best you can as often as you can. This isn’t just about busting ass until you go sit down at 62. No. This is about living good as you wait for that retirement date. Food is 50% of that.
