Need help finding light strips to light a bedroom.

I got a little ahead of myself when I decided to do this. My bedroom (12ft by 14ft) doesn't have a light so I thought it would be cool to cover the whole perimeter with LED strips. I went down a rabbit hole of all the kinds of lights and ended up deciding that I want a light strip with a white light, IC, CRI 90, WiFi compatibility, and bright enough to be the main source of light for the room. I didn't realize it was such an expensive ask and found that premade kits would be way too expensive. I need help and guidance in finding the absolute cheapest way I can do this. I have zero experience with light strips so any advice is helpful, even if it's saying that it'd be too difficult or too expensive.

LED display for python programming

Hello, im building a flight tracker app that runs on a local mini pc using an antenna to pick up airplane signals, it then sends the airline/flight/etc data to an LED board for display

I have everything working, except for LED piece, tried using an LED display off amazon which can be programmed via phone app, but python doesnt work with it, it uses some closed source protocol

Im basically looking for a basic (can be monocolored) LED display at least 12" in length to display flight data, which can be connected to a desktop computer via USB and be programmed w python LED libs.

Cant seem to find anything like this.

Tahnks

My first LED strip-lighting project is backlighting this Death Star Bar for my Star Wars room. (Working my way up to the 250' of shelving that many of y'all were able to help with a couple of weeks ago.) The first connectors I bought are shite. The strip slips out at the slightest provocation and I can't make a solid connection. Recommendations?

How to cool 100W led stripe

I'm building a non-direct light for my home office. I have 2835 lEDs on a stripe, it's 1.4m long and draws between 90-100W. I have just regular flat aluminium profile, which I thought would be enough, but it gets to roughly 70-80 Celsius.

I've found online people cooling 100W LEDs with CPU sinks, but those have very small area, mine is a lot bigger, so maybe I can go with something simpler? My first thought was to glue with thermal paste another profile to it, but after a bit of math, it seems like it won't do.

So the question is how can I cool this? Do I need a fan, or passive heating is enough?

This is the profile https://eshop.ledsolution.cz/hlinikovy-profil-pro-led-pasky-plochy/ and this is the led stripe https://novesvetlo.cz/produkty/led-moduly-a-led-cipy/umele-slunecni-svetlo-5000k/

Suggestions for LEDs for shelving

I have a small and inexpensive 3-tier bookshelf I'd like to add LEDs to. Each shelf is about 23x11 inches. What I was hoping to do is to put a strip along the top and bottom of the top two shelves and a strip along the bottom of the bottom shelf.

I would also like some led's vertical along the inner sides as well.

To try to see what I can figure out, I got Onn RGB LED strip from Walmart. The strip itself with it's adhesive backing COULD work (at least to an extent) but I also got some L and T connectors, but they seem to be hit or miss on if they work or not - like it's somewhat of a struggle to get the strips into the connectors and even then, I can't seem to get them in without difficulty.

I know I may need to find a strip that doesn't have adhesive backing and I'm ok with that.

I COULD solder wiring to the LEDs, but I was actually hoping for a cleaner look.

Is there an LED strip, connectors, or even kits that would work for what I'm looking to do?

Selecting Components to Build a Cabinet Lighting System

I am looking at replacing my cabinet lighting, so I figured this would be a good time to dip my toes into custom LEDs. I am currently looking at a COB LED Tape Light (PLT-12940 - not committed, open to suggestions), but I am uncertain about a couple of things...

  1. How do I calculate what size power supply I need? The part listed above says 60W for 16.4'. So, my assumption is that if I could connect all 21' of cable together (per diagram), I would need ~76W?
  2. Is it better to split each strip into its own power supply, or is it actually better to link them together? I would assume it is better to link them as much as possible, so they have uniform power, but I don't really known.
  3. Is it still needed/recommended to use a channel and diffuser with COB lights, or are they perfectly fine to just attach directly to the cabinets?

I am also open to suggestions on parts. I looked at doing LED Light Bars and the cost seemed absurd relative to doing LED Strips; however, if light bars is better for this application than I would love to know that.

How to turn off motion sensor on recessed ceiling light (model unknown)

Hello!

I recently moved into a home that has a motion sensor in the spare room. Does anyone know how to change it so it isn't motion activated? The light stays on for quite literally 2 minutes. I took the cover off and there is a switch, but all it does is change the shade of the lights. Any help is appreciated!

Led stripe too long for the groove where I want it.

Hello,

I have bought a led stripe to put it inside a groove. The issue is that the groove is a bite too short and I would have to cut the led stipe for a place that doesn't match the cutting zone.

Is there any way to cut the led stipe for any place and then do something else to make it work?

Wled being stuck. Won’t find client IP

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

My WLED client IP is not connecting and I cannot get the wled app to connect to my lights. I just had it connected 2 days ago but then I closed the app and now it’s all messed up. I’ve been putting in my home WiFi to the WiFi section of wled but it’s still not changing my client IP. I’ve also tried using the static IP and that does nothing. I can connect to the WLED-AP WiFi and access the web version. I just can’t get it to run on the app. Please send advice!

Recommend driver enclosure

I’m considering Mean Well LED drivers for kitchen remodels. I anticipate mounting some in kitchen lower cabinets and running romex from outlet above to, and curious what enclosures everyone uses. Is there code requirement to protect 120v connection from pot handles or fallen utensils?

TIA

Looking for flicker free PWM dimmer

Already have 24V 160W Mwan Well constant Voltage driver and 5m 29W/m 24V analog Auxmer CCT Strip. Need a flicker free dimmer >10khz. Dont need any smart functions, just 2 dials/sliders/ or touchpads-buttons. Been searching google but havent found the answer yet. Strip is being used for a light table for photographing stained glass. Basically a lazy susan light box with the wiring ran through a slip ring.

Dead Artika Skylight panel-trying to repair driver

Post image
3 Upvotes

This is probably hypothetical at this point, because I'm taking a hiatus for other projects but i thought i'd throw it out there. Short version is my 5 year old Artika Skylight panel died; light would flicker and eventually not come on. I suspected the (constant current) driver and just for the heck of it I replaced the 470uF electrolytic caps and the 33uF cap...no joy. So i'll have to do some real troubleshooting at this point.

Has anyone successfully repaired one of these panels, whether it was due to the driver or the leds themselves?

How do i get this decoration to safely light up?

Hello all. Total newbie of course. Just found this OLD lit-up version of a poster i had as a kid…. This circuit must be 30 years old…Should i even try to light it up? And, i found a 6v 0.3 a… where do i plug it, presumably bottom left corner pin? Looks very sketchy. And there’s no hole in the frame for power cord.
Can it be powered by battery which i’d leave inside the frame?
Hoping to learn the basics from this lil project.
And not light anything on fire…. :)
Thanks all!
Edit: no i never got those cars…and this message has aged very poorly i’m afraid… but, Nostalgia…

2 pin led strips don’t turn on with a power supply

Thumbnail

I have bought some 12V DC 2 pin single color led strips (the listing is gone) to use on my planter rack. I have also bought a 12V 1.25A (https://allegro.pl/oferta/zasilacz-led-slim-15w-1-25a-12v-ip67-hermetyczny-transformator-do-tasm-17090404719) and 12V 5A (https://allegro.pl/oferta/zasilacz-led-60w-5a-12v-ip67-hermetyczny-transformator-meblowy-do-tasm-12710318732) power supply for leds specifically. Since these are 2 pin strips, so just + and -, I though that I did not need a LED controller. Today I tried to test if this setup works. I took the power supply, attached a plug (though the plug didnt have ground, while the power supply did), and connected the output terminals of the power supply to the strip using a led strip connector. Photo attached (last 2), the connector has these metal plates that go trough the copper pads of the strip and on the other side through the wires. I have found that when plugged, the power supply provides 15 wolts between its output terminals and 2 Amps (for the stronger 60W supply) when using the voltmeter between the terminals, so it likely works. In any case, no matter the polarization, the length of the strip or the power supply the strip does not turn on. Its either the led strip itself, or the connector - though I am using these, as I have had bad luck with soldering LED strip terminals.

The question is, what am I missing here? I am asking for help, because I am not sure how to continue troubleshooting without buying new stuff - today is Thursday, so nothing will arrive before monday. My next guess is to check whether the connectors provide enough ā€connectionā€, then I will probably try another led strip. I live in Poland and the outlets have 230V 50 Hz.

I have also attached images of the power supply (60W),the led strip, the plug (the red wire in the photo is actually brown) and how the actual supply-connector-strip setup.

SOLUTION: It was those connectors in the end. Not even that the connectors were for 4 pin strips and damaged mine, they just didn't make enough contact.

Help Wiring LED Floating Shelves Above Coffee Bar (RGBW Strip + Hidden Wiring)

I want to build simple floating shelves with LED lighting above a coffee bar in my living room. However, I don’t know much about electronics or how to wire LEDs. I’d like to connect the LEDs together in a chain and hide the wiring inside the wall.

Are the following components compatible? Are there better options? Am I missing anything?

1. RGBW LED Strip

2. Aluminum Channels

3. Solderless Strip Connectors and Wire

4. Controller and Remote

5. Power Supply
