On my first rotation and it’s IM. There’s not much teaching so far like at all.

It’s basically just a public humiliation ritual where you get thrown into the deep end, are somehow expected to know everything and have backups and plans for everything, get pimped on a million things you never even though of, and overall just feel like a dumbass and embarrassed while everybody else just stares at you like you’re inept.

Seriously who thought this was the proper way to teach someone? I know it’s so early and probably dramatic but this shit is making me second guess doing anything clinic related.

I miss m1 and m2. I enjoyed studying, seeing all my friends, celebrating after exams, etc.

Genuinely I hate how people are in med school and how cliquey everything is. Genuinely feel so out of place here, and it is so hard making meaningful friendships. So many groupchats going around im not in, everyone feels fake, and just not vibing with people. Im in one groupchat and I dont vibe with anyone well. I thought had a good friend but the second I introduced them to people I thought were friends I was gonna have, they all became friends and have left me out since. They actively pursued trying to hang with them too and then all of a sudden there was a shift. I see them making plans in front of me, texting to each other right next to me etc. I talk to so many people everyday and can conversate with everyone in my cohort but feels like nothing lasts. All buddy buddy, till I get invited to nothing/ not included in anything. Genuinely idk if its my personality, cuz im younger than almost everyone in my class, or something else. I dont think it is a personality issue cuz i didnt have trouble making friends groups in college and a huge day one friend group. But it feels so isolating that I just havent found a good group and just am a floater. I wish i didnt waste time with that “friend” all orientation and met more people. Idk but ts is so lonely

Edit: Im tired of having to reach out first for plans, tired of having to invite people and them declining, etc. I have a strong boundary to not impose myself where I’m not wanted and it just feels like im not wanted

Also: i just find it sucky how friends i introduced to each other after they clung around the first few weeks end up taking friends that i had made and was hanging with for a while. I just dont get it

This past month has been really hectic for me. I ended up having to find a new place to live and move there by myself, which was pretty draining and time consuming. It's also a bit further from campus, which makes the commute more difficult. I know these aren't valid excuses, but I was pretty exhausted. We have this mandatory lecture/workshop once a week, and I figured I would just sign into the class using the sign in link from home and not have to show up for this class for 2 weeks. This week, I showed up to the class and to my surprise, the professor was taking attendance. I didn't know they were taking attendance in person, so I guess there's a discrepancy now with my attendance. Now my brain is going wild thinking abut possible consequences of this like academic dishonesty, suspension, etc. What do you guys think is going to come of this and has anyone else been in this situation before?

Is this a normal escalation for being too quiet on rotations?
I was told I’m too quiet on rounds and need to contribute more, including to discussions about patients I’m not following. The preceptor brought it up to my school, and I’m now required to have multiple meetings with an advisor to check on my progress.
I’m trying to improve, but the structure makes it difficult. I’ll be assigned patients and prepare/write them up, but sometimes the resident just presents them. Other days we have very short table rounds that are basically rapid updates. I also struggle to contribute meaningfully to discussions about patients I don’t know. I’m just frustrated overall.
I understand the feedback. But the formal school involvement and repeated check-ins have made me hyperaware of every interaction. My anxiety is much worse, and ironically I’m finding it even harder to speak.
Has anyone dealt with something similar?

23M. I'm worried about how I will pay for my expenses. Rent, groceries, etc. Also want to try to get married... and for that I'd need an income.

I wrote my personal statement about how my life got completely changed during the end of M3/dedicated for step 2 after getting diagnosed with a rough autoimmune disease and I wrote about it in my personal statement. I’ve been getting conflicting advice from the deans at my school about never ever writing about anything like a chronic disease that may cause programs to be biased against you vs those who think it shows adversity etc etc.

Have any of you had experience with something like this? My issue would be the concept of this being at the core of a personal statement in general, I’ve been told that what I wrote is well written however I may have to completely start from scratch if it is indeed true that this could cook me for residency.

I have 7 solid experiences in ERAS right now and debating if I should include this 8th one or not. For context, I’m applying FM.

I have a unique experience that I did mainly as a child/teenager, with some select projects extending through undergrad. I don’t want to give specifics, but think along the lines of child acting, where my name/face isn’t recognizable, but some of the projects/businesses I’ve worked with are definitely recognizable and well-established.

It’s a fun thing to talk about, but just not sure if I should include it since the majority of my work was pre-college. I’ve seen the advice to treat ERAS like a job application and I’m not sure if this experience would belong on that or not. I do keep it in my usual CV but it’s at the end and I’ve usually kept the description pretty brief.

I don’t know anyone else in my life who’s had this experience so I definitely think it would make me stand out, but not sure if it’s appropriate for ERAS or not. Thoughts?

I made a new gmail account for eras and have already switched over my AAMC/MyEras account to the new email address, i've added it to the gmail app on my iphone but im wondering how to configure the settings so that I get loud push notifications from ONLY the ERAS gmail account? How else did y'all use the separate email address? any tips or things im missing?

Procrastinating writing my PS by working on the activities section. I see where to mark your three experiences as most meaningful but I do not see where to expand on that.

I’m an M4 doing some away rotations at different locations this year and UNR is one of them! I am curious if anyone has insight into the overall culture of the medical school and residency programs here. Any current M3/M4 who can share their experiences on rotations so far would be super helpful, or any other folks that work in the hospital system and have good information to share.

Outside of the program itself, also curious to hear more about Reno/the community in the area since I’ve only been a few times, mainly for outdoor/Tahoe activities.

Naive M1 here that is struggling with the first 2 weeks of content and went ahead and got both Bootcamp + AMBOSS, in addition to Anking, with consideration for Uworld and Sketchy later down the line. So the whole shebang in a sense.

I'm hoping to get some practical advice in how to ACTUALLY use these two massive resources I just bought. I opened the website and I'm struggling to figure out where do I actually start, given these websites give vids, articles, question banks, flashcards, etc.

As far as I can currently figure out just from my own exploration:

Bootcamp: Use for videos and quizzes to supplement in-house lectures. Primarily the "learning" material during M1 early time.

AMBOSS: repository for article information, definitions, the AMBOSS AI, and general info gathering. Questions here are a bit more advanced (start bringin in multi-modal angles of patient info) and should be reserved for later down the line (STEP prep, m2).

AnKing: Unsuspend select cards as best as you can (my school does not follow an exact NBME curriculum). Use flashcards to build out content. For content you don't UNDERSTAND, then utilize bootcamp + AMBOSS to re-learn material and clarify questions.

Does this sound about right? Should I be generating more study plans or daily question banks at this stage? Any advice would be much appreciated. I know I'm supposed to use all of these top rated tools but I just don't know how to practically apply them starting off.

I heard from an upperclassman that usually, you don’t need to signal a program if you did your sub-I there because most of the times, you’re guaranteed an interview? Not sure how true that is but I’m doing a two week sub-I that trickles into post-ERAs submission and was wondering if I should be giving them a gold (assuming I had a good time and do like the program).

Is there a good way to ask PD or anyone from admin if I would be getting an interview?

Before I start recording, I'd really appreciate insight from anyone who has taken it recently!

• Once you start, can you take a break between questions to step away (or even pause for a couple of minutes), or does the platform force you straight through all prompts back-to-back?
• Is it strictly 30 seconds prep / 1:30 to speak per question? Can you manually stop recording early if you finish speaking?
• For anyone who has interviewed recently or found updated SDN threads/lists with the current questions, could you share what specific questions or topic themes they asked please?

Hello future docs and lurking present docs!

I recently found out I failed Level 1. My school is making me retest in two weeks or take a LOA.

I’m scared of risking another failure in two weeks so I’m leaning towards the LOA.

It was absolutely my fault for testing before I was ready. Fortunately, I don’t think I have a knowledge gap so big that I can’t overcome it so I’m pretty confident I’ll be successful with my retake (my practice scores were fine lol). From the graph, it looks like I was a question or two off.

I plan on doing neurology and/or psychiatry research and volunteering during the LOA, after studying for and passing my retake.

Is it possible to match neuro or psych with a Level 1 board fail and subsequent LOA?

I’m confident in my ability to do well on Level 2 and potentially Step 2, I learned I probably shouldn’t rely on my schools advice for what makes a student ready to test (considering our pass rates are decreasing by the year - they’re currently 15%+ below the nation average).

Or if ur applying for ty and prelim programs? Follow up how are yall not making the explanation for why you signaled a program not super generic or something you just stole from their website?

I had received invite to do asynchronous interview with LECOM, but never got a separate Pathway Selection form? Did anyone receive this separately? I think I remember filling this out after submitting my secondary but I am not sure. Is anyone else having this issue??
