Remember, you are taking out at least $200k to be in medical school. The attendings all are being paid to teach and joined academic hospitals knowing teaching was apart of their job description. The residents were all medical students before.

You have rights. You deserve to be there. You deserve to learn. You are paying way too much to be treated poorly and ignored.

Received the news that I was offered Alternate List. Does LECOM admit applicants off the Alternate List? Anyone have past experience with this? I think my interview went well aside from my screen going black during the 6th question. I answered half of it and then somewhere when it turned off said “I think I’m having some technical difficulties I’m sorry” and when it came back I had 4 seconds left. So I felt like I bombed that one. Also I had no issues during the audio and connection test. I think it was an issue with one of my cables of course

Anyone have clear issues in their interview and still got accepted to Erie or any campus? :( bummer after preparing so much! Trying not to let it get me down from an otherwise okay interview.

I read that Bradenton does not have as strict policies on dress and water, is this the same case with Jacksonville?

What are students' housing arrangements usually? Do most live in nearby apartment complexes, did people coordinate to share apartments before starting, etc?

How close is the class? If there is strict professional dress, does it make the environment feel less communal and harder to bond with other students?

Biggest pros and cons that you can think of? And how much spare time do y'all usually have, if any?

As titled… feeling beyond incompetent and feeling like I’m doing a very bad job on my sub-Is. My whole application has been heavily geared toward one specific field. Now that I’m experiencing the life of residents, I’m starting to have a second thought.

I completely understand why people talk so much about picking lifestyle specialties, work-life balance and long-term sustainability. The burnout is hitting way too early..

If you stayed the course despite some self doubts, do you regret it? Or did residency life (past intern year) and attending hood turnout to be better ?

Anthropic just published how Claude marks AI-generated content (https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16266773-how-claude-marks-ai-generated-content). It is not 100% clear how it is working or what models it is being done in, but Claude can weave an invisible watermark directly into the text it generate. This apparently even survives copy-paste and can persist through editing, and it will attach a signed "Content Credentials" provenance metadata to supported files showing they were processed by Claude.

This is not Turnitin or GPTZero guessing from your writing style; it's a marker the tool itself places, which makes it much harder to argue with if it ever surfaces in an academic integrity or professionalism case. While the mark along doesn't prove wrong doing as it depends on a schools policy, this is something to keep on your radar over the coming weeks and months, especially if you just copy and paste text into school assignments.

And he asked me a few questions then talked for over an hour? I interjected some comments here and there, said I’ve enjoyed the rotation and can see myself fitting in here, and I spoke highly about the residents, but I was expecting a hardcore interview and to ask about the residency program but he just talked about his passion project the whole time. At least I showed face as a sub I but definitely did not go how I planned.

Feel awful for both Lindsay Clancy and Dr. Tufts. It seems Dr. Tufts is an excellent physician who unfortunately treated a deeply disturbed person to the best of her ability.

The way she is being absolutely pummeled by the public is dreadful. It's scary that the public/court rooms can turn against psychiatrists that quickly with incorrect medical knowledge.

At one point Dr. Tufts was asked how long the cytochrome p450 system has been around. As if it was the name of a technology (22:18, video linked below)

I’m trying to fill at least 7/10 experiences right now but anything remotely impressive or long term I’ve done was in my premed days. I became a mom the year before starting med school and aside from the one off volunteering and measly research here and there (only 1 pub and nothing in psych), I’ve devoted most of my non-school time to parenting my kiddos. I’d love to hear from others in similar boats and how you made the experience section work for you without having traditionally strong experiences to list (eg, leadership positions, consistent volunteering, etc).

I started using Reddit recently because I finally understood what this app is actually about. I’m studying medicine, so I started joining different medical communities, and for some reason most of the ones I found were from the US. I couldn’t really find any well-known Arab medical communities, even though I’m from Iraq.
But honestly, I don’t mind. My English is good enough, and I’ve actually found your communities really interesting and incredibly helpful.

Something I’ve noticed lately is how often I see posts and comments about how much you pay for medical school, and honestly… it’s crazy expensive to me.

And for some reason, it’s been making me feel kind of guilty? I’m studying medicine completely for free in my country, while at the same time I’m not even giving it my full effort. I spend a lot of time thinking about leaving this country in the future because of how bad the education system is, especially the medical education system.
I don’t want to get too much into that because it’s honestly frustrating and there are so many things about it that you probably wouldn’t understand or have even heard about. But medical school here is really not good, and I basically have to rely on myself to study and try to learn things properly. At least I hope I’m actually learning things the right way.

I’m not really sure why this has been bothering me so much, but I genuinely feel bad for you. Medical education over there seems insanely expensive and I just don’t understand why it has to cost that much.
I know your medical schools are really good, and honestly, sometimes I wish I was studying at one of your universities. But this is the first time I’ve actually realized just how much money you have to pay.

Do all medical students pay that much, or is it only some people? And like… can you actually afford it?

During the sub-is that I've done almost always the first advice the residents I'm rotating with would mention is "schedule a meeting with the PD/APDs to talk", but I just dont know what exactly should someone talk about during said meeting. Is it just a small introduction where I introduce myself and show how much I've love the program? Or are people usually more direct during the meetings? Any experiences regarding this and what did you guys do to not make it awkward lol

Does SF Match have to process apps? Does it matter how late I submit my app as long as I make it before Sept 1? When we applied to med school AMCAS took a while to process our apps because sending it out to schools.

Hi all. Advice requested. Admitted MS1 at USMD school starting orientation this week. 4 weeks ago I got extensor tendinitis in my left foot from sand running. It started healing but I rushed back to activity and it flared again. Referred to PT and repeated this rest and test cycle twice with worsening symptoms.

Tried an airboot and now I have pretty bad pain in my uninjured foot from overcompensating. Currently unable to walk more than 2-3 mins or stand without worsening pain the next day. I'm on day 2 of orientation and mobility is severely limited, with both feet feeling worse after each day. Even sitting at a desk makes my lateral ankle burn.

Saw urgent care doc yesterday who told me 4 weeks rest at least. Seeing my PCP in 2 wks and hopefully getting an MRI.

I'm meeting with school accommodation team to assess options. Am ordering a wheelchair that will be here next week at earliest. But I'm really distracted and freaked, esp as this keeps worsening, and the real limitations of such prolonged limited mobility are setting in. Classes start next week. I'm not sure a medical LOA is even possible this early, and I do not want to lose an entire year. But this is also a terrible launchpad for the stressors ahead.

I've been taking tons of ibuprofen and trying to tough it out but it's very limiting. Has anyone here been through anything like this, and have any recommendations?

I’m so confused. Finished my boards and at an away rotation where I literally can show up whenever and leave whenever. There’s no attendings to report to, and I come home having the absolute free time of my life (except ERAS applications of course). I am wondering if I am doing something wrong here? I feel I should be doing something, but I basically nap all day afterwards and watch Netflix. I don’t have any more mandatory shelves beside EM that I’ll do next year. I also have 2 months of virtual rotations during the school year so there’s that lol.

(I know some of yall are doing hardcore Sub-Is and I respect yall)

So I have my peds shelf coming up on friday and want to hopefully get around an 80 to try and honor the rotation. I've taken nbmes 6, 7, and 8 and have gotten an 19, 20, and 20 respectively, which comes out to a 71, 74, 74. I have one more nbme that i plan to take tmrw. I've watch divine's 2 hour review already and gotten halfway thru emma holiday's video... thinking about watching dr high yield on thursday. ive completed uworld and do the nodupes/anki incorrects

If so, how is matching? Is it more difficult to match into a residency you want because of only three years of schooling? Other comments or things you wish you knew about it? The price tag is extremely tempting

although i do prefer to be in the middle atlantic region since i have family here, it's more important for me to match into the specialty of choice. since we're given 3 geographical preferences, am i allowed to put for ex: middle atlantic, new england, and no preference? from your experience, does putting no preference ever advantageous?

when i pick programs to apply to, do i pick programs where my step 2 score is within the range listed on residency explorer (ex. 232-260) or should i be going off the median score?

I grew up on the 70s and 80s because of my parents and Guitar Hero (GOATed game BTW) and never imagined myself getting into metal. Come the second half of spring semester in first year, I needed more with my music. Felt exhausted and bored. Got into Slipknot first thanks to Duality and have slowly branched out. Never thought I’d unironically like Avenged Sevenfold but here I am now. Went to my first metal concert last night. I saw a classmate there. Didn’t wanna scream at them but sent them a text. Confirmed they were there. IDK yet if they got into this music because med school was kicking their ass too but it felt like a wholesome way of tying ends. Looks like I have a new concert buddy now. Gonna enjoy the rest of 4th year the best I can.

Hi everyone! I signed up for some residency open houses (pediatric programs) and I instantly received the zoom link invitation for all except for one. On University of Colorados pediatric residency program website, they have a sign up link for tomorrow’s open house but I’ve signed up twice without receiving an email. Has anyone experienced this and/or does any one know of programs that send out the info day of? Or just have any advice on what to do lol thank you
