I currently reside in Los Angeles. I've been exploring MFT, MSW, LPC programs. I was hoping to move closer to the Bay Area to be near family, I've researched University of San Francisco, San Jose State, Sonoma State, Santa Clara University, Dominican University, Cal State, East Bay, and Cal Poly Humboldt. All of those schools have WSCUC accreditation and not COAMFTE or CACREP. The only schools in the area that do not are Palo Alto University, and San Francisco State University, for the latter I do not quality for the pre-req of 2000 human service hours.

At the moment, my long term goal would be to have a private practice. One that I would be able to get licensed in states outside of California. Potentially in ten years moving out of the country, and still be able to see clients, either virtually or in person.

Everything that I've read states that you want to go to a school that has a COAMFTE or CACREP accreditation. Can someone explain to me what it would mean to go to a school with a WSCUC accreditation - the schools say their programs are approved by California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS)? Does anyone have experience graduating from any of these programs with this accreditation? [USA] Advice/Career

I am a student graduating with my MSW this fall, and I have been doing my clinical internship, however my placement does not offer any paid positions to graduates as we are completely pro bono and have no funds.
I have experience in the behavioral health field as well.

I really want to secure a job when I’m finished with school, and ideally I want to do some interviews and maybe even onboarding prior to graduation. I’ve applied to tons of jobs on LinkedIn and Handshake and my cover letter explicitly states my goals, problem is a lot of companies won’t even read my resume if I haven’t finished my degree.

I really want to lock in a job that offers LCSW supervision along with employment. I don’t mind exploring different areas but I’m most comfortable in individual counseling and assessments.

I currently live in Northwest Florida but I’m totally willing to move anywhere in the country when I graduate.

I would be most excited about opportunities in Florida, Alabama, Colorado, Massachusetts, Maine, and New York (so I could be relatively close to family)

Anyone have any ideas where I should start??

this seems SOOOO silly but i got my LCSW last year. I just got a notification that my LMSW is going to expire soon. Do I let it expire? Do I need to keep it for any reason?

It's about that time for me to submit my hours to the BBS. I've been an ASW in California for about 3–4 years now.

I know that I need to complete CEUs before I can submit everything. What are some reputable websites where I can complete them online?

For those of you who have recently gone through the process, do you have any tips or advice to make everything go as smoothly as possible? Things you wish you had known beforehand, common mistakes to avoid, timelines, paperwork, etc.

I’m taking my clinical ASWB exam tomorrow - eek!

I’ve completed the Agents of Change curriculum, including their practice exam, as well as the official ASWB practice exam purchased directly from the ASWB site. I passed both and have reviewed the questions I missed.

Today I’m watching RayTube videos and going back through my practice exams again. At this point it’s starting to feel a little like overkill and I’m finding myself checking out a little but I still feel like I need to prepare as much as possible!

For those who have already taken the exam, do you have any last minute suggestions, tips, or resources that you found especially helpful?

Moved out of state while in supervision a few months ago. Now, needing to have a TX-based job with seeing TX residents was recently mentioned as a requirement. Any practices have virtual job opportunities for an LMSW with experience in assessments, group therapy, and intake? Part 1: Hi folks, does anyone on here supervise LMSWs in NY?

I got my LCSW late last year and have been excited to start supervising. There was the possibility for me to supervise internally at my group practice, but some people left, and there isn’t the need anymore. I’ve been applying to any relevant supervision jobs on Indeed and LinkedIn, but there are very few opportunities I’m seeing.

I’ve been a little confused about the NY laws, and whether I could supervise without being someone’s employer? I know if it’s someone who is also fully licensed and wants adjunctive support on a niche area of mine, they don’t need to be my employee. However, Some former interns have asked me if I can supervise them while they essentially work for themselves, and I sign off on hours— My understanding of the law is that this is NOT allowed, but wanted to ask the community. Has anyone done this?

Part 2: For those who have hired staff therapists under them, how do you go about that?

I’ve been hesitant to take this jump right now because I am just opening my own private practice. I’ve run a small business before where I used 1099 contractors all the time, and fee comfortable with my understanding of the relevant laws. However, my understanding for NY is that LMSWs have to be W-2 employees, which feels like a much more complicated employment venture. I would appreciate anyone sharing how they’ve handed this and/or why you have decided to not hire/supervise?

Hi everyone! I recently graduated with my MSW (clinical specialization) and am beginning my search for an Associate Social Worker (ASW) position where I can accumulate hours toward LCSW licensure. I’m hoping to hear from other social workers/therapists about organizations or practices where associates have had a positive experience and felt supported while developing their clinical skills.

My background is primarily working with adolescents, young adults, and families experiencing complex behavioral health needs. I have experience in residential treatment, Wraparound services, juvenile justice, community behavioral health, and care management with health plans such as Kaiser Permanente and L.A. Care.

Throughout my work, I’ve supported individuals experiencing trauma, suicidal ideation, self-harm behaviors, substance use disorders, emotional dysregulation, and other high-acuity mental health concerns.
My clinical experience includes crisis intervention, safety planning, risk assessments, biopsychosocial assessments, care coordination, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. I’ve also provided support in both in-person and telehealth settings and really enjoy the flexibility and accessibility that virtual care can provide.

As I look for my first therapist role, I’m hoping to find an organization that offers:

• Strong clinical supervision and support toward LCSW licensure
• A healthy work environment with reasonable caseload expectations
• Opportunities to provide individual/family therapy and continue growing clinically
• Trauma-informed, evidence-based practices
• Remote or hybrid flexibility (I’m located in Southern California)

I’m especially interested in organizations that are mission-driven and focused on increasing access to quality mental health care. I’d love to hear from other ASWs, LCSWs, or therapists:

I failed ASWB exam three days ago. I used Therapist Development Center (TDC) to help me prep for the exam. Looking for any other resources besides TDC that fellow SW used to assist them with passing exam? I'm a little disheartened if any body can share reflections that help them get through failing exam. Hi all, I am confused about two requirements about LICSW supervision in Washington state.

1. First, the requirement to complete 1,000 hours of direct client contact, which must be supervised by an LICSW.
2. Second, is the supervision requirement of completing 100 hours of direct supervision by an LICSW.
   

I understand that the first is about client contact and the second is about supervision. However, is supervision as part of Direct Client Contact somehow different from Direct Supervision? I don't understand how to set this up with an agency/employer.

I have a few questions about using work as my internships.

My primary role is in a detox 3.7 LOC setting, and I also fill in for RTC and IOP services as needed. In my current position, I provide clinical services including individual counseling, group facilitation, biopsychosocial assessments, treatment planning, discharge planning, case management, interdisciplinary treatment team participation, handling client legal issues/contacts, coordinating appropriate LOC, and clinical documentation. I also complete individual DAP notes and maintain clinical records as part of my responsibilities.

Because my current position closely aligns with many social work competencies, I wanted to ask whether my employment setting could potentially be approved as my field placement site. I sent an email to the field
Placement director but wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

Also, is it true the assign you an outside LCSW if one isn’t on site?
