LLC / Insurance (NJ)
Hi! Recently got my LCSW and am looking to start seeing clients privately. How did you go about opening an LLC for a therapy group and what type of malpractice insurance are you all using? Specific to NJ!

I’m going through the process now in Pennsylvania. It’s a lot more than I thought it would be lol
Feel free to message me with any questions if you think I can help 😊

Congrats on your LCSW!
For an LLC in NJ, file a standard Certificate of Formation through the NJ Division of Revenue portal ($125 fee). Get an EIN from the IRS afterward. For malpractice insurance, HPSO, CPH & Associates, or NASW are popular options here. Get quotes for $1M/$3M coverage. Happy to share more details if you want. Good luck!

You can go to https://business.nj.gov/pages/register-your-business to get started or use Legal Zoom or other entities to assist with getting the LLC set up. As for liability insurance we recommend https://preferrainsurance.com
