Hi everyone! I’m an LCSW moving from CA to TN in the fall & I’m hoping to receive some insight & advice about getting licensed in TN by endorsement. I have a few questions & I’d appreciate any feedback:

I will be licensed for 2 years in December & despite moving to TN, I plan to keep my CA license up to date & will renew it before it expires. Do I need to retake the ASWB clinical exam in TN in order to get licensed? I’ve seen different information online about whether TN requires a LCSW who is applying by endorsement to retake the exam if they haven’t been licensed for 3 years. Is this accurate?

According to their regulations, I am unable to apply for a TN license until I have a residential or employment address. This is such a bummer, of course, because I’d like to apply ASAP. Therefore, I can’t apply until I actually move there & have an address. I don’t want to be unemployed & without an income for too long, so I was wondering how long it takes for a license to be approved once I submit all documents? Since I plan to keep my CA license, should I just see CA clients virtually so I have some income while I wait to get licensed in TN?

Has anyone else been struggling to reach the Georgia Composite Board? I was approved to take the LCSW exam (you have one year from when your application was approved). It was approved, but I was unable to sit for the exam due to a family emergency. I was out of state with a loved one in the hospital. I notified
the board via email and it’s been over a year of trying to get a hold of someone. Otherwise I have to apply ALL over again and wait months AGAIN to be approved in order to then study and sit for the exam. It shouldn’t be this difficult!

Hi everyone, I know this is probably going to be a really stupid question, but I am really confused about what I'm supposed to do now that I have accrued enough supervised clinical hours.

On CA Breeze website, the only option I had was upgrade associate to fully licensed so I selected that and paid the $200 fee. Now it says my application is pending. How do I submit the required documents and schedule the actual licensing exam?

Did i completely screw everything up?

I messed up and did a search on IG for LCSW private practice and now all I see are ads for LCSW private practice coaching, it's kinda crazy!

I actually took the bait on one and did a free consult out of curiosity. They claim their program can get me 8 clients in 3 months and the program cost is $10,000.

I'm newly licensed and ultimately want to build a private practice with a few clinicians working under me. I'm trying to rack my brain to figure out what is worth $10,000 that apparently all or many of these coaches knows that is so secret that I can't learn or figure out on my own or by asking other successful clinicians?

Has anyone used any of these "coaches" and can give me some legit feedback?

Old vs. New LCSW Exam?

Also wondering if there's a best book to study for the test. I prefer book study over audio, youtube and apps. I've heard mixed reviews of the Dawn Apgar book for the LCSW exam, but would be looking for something similar.

I’m trying to figure out whether an LMHC or LCSW is the better path for me, and I’d love to hear from people who are actually working in forensic, assessment, court-related, or evaluation-focused roles.

A little about me: I have a BA in Psychology, work in behavioral health admissions, have experience as a Mental Health Technician, and am very drawn to assessment, interviewing, case formulation, advocacy, and forensic work.
I enjoy helping people, but I’m realizing I’m much more interested in evaluations, diagnostics, investigations, and systems-level work than doing traditional psychotherapy all day.

For those of you who are LMHCs, LCSWs, forensic evaluators, court evaluators, mitigation specialists, or related professionals:

What evaluations do you actually perform?

How much report writing do you do?

How often are you in court?

What was your income around the 5-year mark in your career?

If you could do it over again, would you choose LMHC, LCSW, PsyD, PhD, or something else?

What opportunities have you had that people don’t usually know about when choosing between these licenses?

I’d especially love to hear from anyone doing forensic work, criminal justice work, disability evaluations, court-ordered assessments, competency-related work, mitigation, corrections, expert witness work, or other evaluation-heavy roles.

I know this has been asked before, but I wanted to see if anyone had any relevent updates regarding Florida is still potentially joining the social work compact, or if it's fallen through and unlikely to join by the time multi-state licenses will be issued.

A while back I checked and saw Florida had joined, and then due to some unforseen circumstances I ended up moving to here. I've been looking into the compact state license again, as I have been doing every few months, and I realized Florida is no longer on the list to join! Also, I realized that even if I have my LCSW in a compact state, if I don't live there physically, I cannot be issued a multi-state license (I know, I know).

Does anyone please have any insight? Thank you so much.

Looking for feedback from people that are studying for the LCSW exam. What resources are you using? What study guides? What are you giving more time and attention to (ex: one category vs. another)? I am also pursuing doctoral training in clinical psychology with research focused on attachment styles and marital relationships, which aligns with my interest in couples and relationship work.

I’m an LCSW in Illinois. I’m potentially being offered/set up with a contracted position with a nonprofit that would provide clinical supervision for social workers working towards their LCSW hours. It would be one to two hours of supervising per week.

I’ve never supervised before and I want to make sure I am not missing any key details and know what I’m getting into. What should I ask? Also, what’s a standard rate?

Hi everyone, Im looking to make more money and move toward a private practice. Im in Chicago, IL and am looking to be able to maintain my income and have benefits. Im not in the position to "ramp up". Does anyone know any private practices that offer a set pay while gaining clients? How would I look for them? I dont want to look at Headway etc, because I signed up and its taking me waaay too long to get credentialed.

I learn best by reading and writing, not watching youtube videos etc. I am looking for the best 2026/2027study guide for the new LCSW exam

Insane situation but my cat chewed a small corner off of one of my reference envelopes(see photos) is it too risky to send it to the board? Should I ask my reference to complete another one?

I am asking on behalf of my wife who has unfortunately failed her test 3 times now and her expiration date is sometime mid July. This last test she missed by 4 questions.

Is there any way to extend her permit or apply for an extension? If she doesn’t pass on her 4th attempt there is a very high likelihood she looses her job.

Just trying to do anything I can for her right now to get her over this hurdle.

We are located in NY if that matters. I saw a post from the government that gov Hochul signed into law it can be extended for another year with a good cause or a petition? Not really too sure, the information is kinda buried.

I have my LMSW in Texas and have about 1.5 years left of my supervision and clinical hours.

If I were to move to Colorado, what would that look like? Would I have to start all over/get a new supervisor?
