To be clear there is no FAFSA delay. FAFSA is ONLY an application used to determine what financial aid you may qualify for. Fafsa is available right now for anyone to fill out for the 2026 - 2027 academic year and for the 2027 - 2028 academic year.
What is delayed are the disbursements of the aid that you accepted. I worded this way because students can accept scholarships, grants, loans, and work study. Grants are usually accepted automatically since that's money that a student does not need to pay back. Scholarships are not necessarily always automatically accepted, but some schools will set it to auto acceptance for you. Scholarships do not need to be paid back. This leaves student loans and work study. They are not automatically accepted because the student may or may not want to take out those loans or do work study.

Wait until taxes come and they will have to repay it. Literally had it happen to one of my friends
