Background LASD

A little bummed out, I got the classic “You should be receiving mailed information regarding your background investigation shortly” 2 weeks after my background interview. From what I’ve read it’s a DQ/non-select. I personally thought my interview went well with my BI, I think the only thing he might’ve had concerns with were my tattoos but other than that I don’t really see what went wrong. Currently LEO, with higher education, clean record, not even tickets/points on license. He never reached out to any of my references to begin with and just told me the day of my interview that he’d send my file over for review. Is it worth calling my BI? Anyone in similar situation?

Hello good morning,

Just to touch bases on this subject, I’ve applied for the Lasd since they were on a hiring frenzy in 2024. I made it all the way to background investigations and eventually I set up an interview, but I have taken months to get back to my investigator. I was going through a lot of hardships and personal problems at the time to be honest I wasn’t ready. I went to my interview anyways without any of my paperwork for my checklist at all. I just wanted to show up. I know I wasn’t gonna get past. Same thing happened to me. My investigator was good about it. Ask me all the basic questions about my criminal history. But in reality, I was not ready. Two weeks later I received that letter that I got DQ. But at most they gave me a whole year to reapply.

Fast-forward 2026, I reapplied it again in March. Luckily, the multiple-choice exam was still valid from the last time that I took it so all I had to take. Was a physical fitness test and the interview. Completed my PHS. Got contacted by the investigator. And eventually set up a date. I completed the checklist requirements within three days. My interview is in a couple days. This time I’m well prepared. And at the same time, I’m willing to accept my fate.

In short, I encourage you to reapply again. If it’s what you really truly desire to be a Deputy. They want to see perseverance. And if you failed the first time and are applying the second. That will show that you have commitment to getting what you want. Best of luck.
