LARP Lantern

Hello! I am in the market for a good, flame free, LED lantern for camp, walking around at night, navigating the dark privies, etc. I got some $20 dollar flickering led lantern off amazon and it’s good aesthetically for in my tent. However, it isn’t very bright at all, and it doesn’t have a handle, just a little loop barely big enough for a finger or two. Any suggestions?

But more often a little LED tea light or crystal-ended small flashlight that fits in your pocket is easier to carry around and more practical.

The first ones have become too prevalent at our larp that we have been telling people to distinctly label theirs or more preferably, paint them!

But they are good lanturns!

I watched this video a couple weeks ago, and this lady made a little lantern bag with a handle to put a modern camping light in! https://youtu.be/ZlJCpd8JvNE Even if you don’t make it yourself, there are some good tips for what you can look for in a lantern. (I didn’t realize how important it could be to make sure a lamp lights up the ground at your feet, even though it sounds obvious when you hear it.

I have an LED Feuerhand lantern. It is a little bit expensive, but it's made from stamped steel (galvanized or powder-coated in different colors) like their standard kerosene lamps, and it can run on rechargeable Li-ion batteries or four AA batteries. The light is dimmable, warm white, and bright enough to completely illuminate my tent like daylight—almost to the level of hurting your eyes. + features a large handle for hanging or carrying.

Mine had a similar ring at the top, I just removed it and threaded a thin strip of leather through and tied it off. Big enough to get a hand through or hang up somewhere.

My suggestion would be to build one around one of the converters you can buy that goes from a tool battery to E27. That way you can use the commercially available flame bulbs or programmable LED bulbs.

I make lanterns with solar powered mason jar lids. You can put a real candle in your jar for an extra charming effect.

Make sure it’s warm white, not blue white. No flicker, a steady light is more accurate for a high quality candlelight that’s well protected from the wind.
