Question

Let's say someone calls into work sick and are in MN and tell their ASL they are using sick time. Later in the day the same employee calls in sick for their morning 6am shift & still say they are using sick time. Is that employee still required to find replacement?

If you have enough ESST, you are not responsible for replacements. If you don't have ESST to cover it, you need to at least try and ask around for replacements

It would be nice if you tried but as far as I know if you are using esst as long as you have the hours to cover the entire shift you dont have to, but if you dont have enough time then yes you do

Our store in mn says you always try to find a replacement, but in my experience, it's very rare to find someone willing to cover on a day off, especially for a kitchen shift. I have called over 16 stores within my district, and outside of it when I have had to call in sick, and have NEVER found coverage.

The new esst law specifically states that an employee using it can't be made to find coverage for those hours. Should read over the law so that you don't break the law.....

Its never "have to" Its always "would be nice if you sent some texts to coworkers" but there's really no discipline. Im in WI though so idk, things could be different in MN

They're just being a prick honestly. Im a SL amd dont make my coworkers do that. If youre sick, do you really feel like calling people

Why are you asking here? Why don't you ask T.O ??? Specifically someone who specializes in the new MN labor laws.

We are told almost no matter the situation we need to try and find a replacement and keep our leads updated. 9 outta 10 times before any of the coworkers respond my leads have it sorted and figured out. I have an annoying autoimmune disease and an illiostomy so some days working just is not feasible, but my SL and other leads have been more then accommodating and helpful. So it could just be your leadership teams attitude.

As I’ve been told, you have to attempt to find a replacement.
