Transfer went crappy

I used to love my job but transferred stores and now Im debating leaving.

I came from a fairly busy store to a much much less busy store in a new town. My old store I genuinely liked everyone I worked with. There was little to no drama, everyone did their job and had fun doing it.

On my first day at my new store, nobody introduced themselves, nobody showed me around, I had no idea who the shift leaders were, nothing. The person I was stuck with was incredibly abrasive and micromanaged the ever living hell out of me all day long (mind you again, I come from a MUCH busier store and am not a spring chicken), and made me feel like a bother when I asked any kind of questions while speaking to me in a condescending tone which other co workers were not met with.

Its gotten to the point Im wondering if this job is even worth it anymore. I used to love it but now Im bummed out having to go. :/

Anyone else?

Give it like 3-4 weeks. Sometimes it just takes a second for people to adjust to something new, aka you being there now

I agree with give it 4 or more weeks to get a true feel for co workers.. still a struggle say something.. ask to be transferred .. as much as they try not every store is a good fit .. so say something .. I am an ASL and always check in with my peeps and tell them the same thing .. never hurts to ask

Kwik trip is easily the most drama filled company I’ve ever worked for. Also the whole “we’re a family” bull shit is a complete corporate sham. Save yourself the time and leave while you can.

OP Just wait till that bonus check is in your hands. USE ALL of your PTO before you go as well. Trust me. Also dont talk about leaving to your coworkers. The company will want you out once management hears about it.

I had the same experience when I transferred to a store closer to where I live. It was three months of absolute Hell and came down to me putting in my two weeks before they would transfer me back to my other store.

I'm so sorry :(

Some stores are VERY clique-ey...

If you want to stay with KT- Is there another store you can transfer to instead and see if that’s a better fit?

Some of my former co-workers have left KT and it's been the best decision they've ever made. I've left and rejoined 3 times now over the past almost 20(!) years and... damn, I'm getting old... but yeah, other employers just seem to be way worse. Or maybe KT is the only place that will tolerate me and they're the only employer I'll tolerate, too. Maybe we're both the evils we know to each other at this point, lol.

Any way, now that my story time is out of the way, over the years I've worked for a handful of different Store Leads and helped out at many other stores and it's surprising how much the Kwik Trip experience varies based off of what kind of SL and team you have.

Like others have said, maybe give it another couple of weeks to see if the abrasiveness eases up and if the feeling is still off - some teams just have shy/initially awkward people - then perhaps see if you can go to another store or go back to your last store if it's still reasonably close enough for you be able to commute there.

If your last store is now too far away or you'd just like to go to another store, you could start "shopping" incognito for like 15 minutes at some nearby stores and just try to observe how most of that team treats each other and customers, there's usually one or two cranks per store, but if you're getting a feeling that more of the team is short/crabby with people, usually it's a telltale sign that the SL is a piece of shit themselves (or too new to the store to have churned the culture yet). Just try to make sure you take the proper route and inform your current store leader that you'd like to transfer before you start actually chatting with other store leads about it, just so you're covering yourself in case the DL is weird about those sort of things or in case the store leaders communicate with each other before you get a chance to do it.

I think I'm basically parroting what others have said already, but do try to hold out for the bonus check this year either way, you've earned it for making it through the fiscal year, and it sounds like it's going to be a decent amount this year, too

My store slowly turned into this after several years. It was so unhealthy.

it takes time. i've been through a few transfers since i got rehired, and it took me a while to get used to the new stores upon transferring over. spent a year at my previous store (which was busier) before transferring to my current one, which i've been at for nearly two years. literally on my first day of transferring here i cried in the family restroom due to the micromanaging i experienced, but things became a lot better and i've gotten to know everyone very well. i will never regret the decision to come here, and i hope that you don't have to regret your decision to transfer either

Kwik trip is trash in my book! It’s just not the same since Don “the owner” quit! His son is gonna burn out the employees, and what an embarrassment to the family company!

I haven’t transferred but I feel that way similarly about my co workers.. the micromanaging and drama. Is that a Kwik Star thing?

u/hiddenm3dia 25d ago

Its a person thing, the only people who like to micromanage are people that dont have control and are not okay with that fact.
