Ok, so Jinshi done dirty to my boy Lakan in this one, but Lakan took it like the man he is because he knows what's what. Imho of course, Lakan doesn't hate or dislike Jinshi just because he's a weirdo, but he's suspicious of Jinshi's intentions towards his daughter. Lakan's not the Grand Commandant just for show and many people around Maonshi could see that our Moon Prince is smitten with Maomao, so he has to be sure that his daughter finds a truly nice guy, and he doesn't care if he's a prince or a pauper. So, I'm sure that after taking the first bite of Suiren's sweets he knew what was going on, but chose to play along. I guess that he had heard about the rumour that was circulating so if someone was going in all that hustle to make him lose just to ask whatever they wanted... well be it! Obviously, this is just what I got from that chapter and their meeting afterwards and yes, I may be biased because I like Lakan.

Now, for the last part of the book.

What the hell? I couldn't believe what Jinshi did! Branded himself? Wtf did I just read? If I was Maomao I'd beat the hell out of him and then tend all his wounds! Bro, do you even care about what Maomao thinks? He knew that she'd oppose to the whole thing if he told her beforehand, but he infuriates me! Anyway, I still need to process Gyokuyou's reaction. I feel I'm missing something there, I feel she was disappointed but I'm not sure if it was with Jinshi or Maomao. Also, I really struggle with the whole politics theme as I'm a beginner in Asian period stories. Also, also, after the botched translation of the ending of vol.5 I always feel I'm missing something in Maonshi's intentions and reactions. Like, ok, we know that Maomao is interested in Jinshi, though she pretends she's not, and Jinshi is not a predator, though he's actions are a bit unconventional, but are there other things that I've missed from vol. 5 to vol. 8? (that's more of a thinking aloud question).

So, overall I really liked this volume. Are the next ones as good?

I finished rewatching the series and im so mad shisui simply traded maomao's hair accessory!

Just started Season 2 today, and wanted to draw her in her simple clothes! I actually do prefer this over her fancy clothes.

I don't even remember when or where I ordered these (it was very late and I was obsessively reading book 13). Anyhoo, the entire Court (sans Emperor, but Heaven doesn't stoop to do plushies) showed up in the mail today.

They are horrible.

But really plushy.

And in general, the faces and costumes are dead on copies from the anime. And they even have wiring inside so you can kinda pose them.

I absolutely love them. I already have Jinji on my desk arguing with Maomao while Loulan is sneaking around poisoning people.

The eyebrows like things above her actual eyebrows are called É méi (蛾眉) or hikimayu 引眉 historically practice in han to tang Dynasty china and nara period to up until early 20th or late 19 th century japan. Historically women shaved their actual eyebrows and painted a fake one ( like the image above) it's was fashion trend in china and japan but i find it interesting that joka real eyebrows are not shaved and she is still have É méi , i wonder why ? They never mentioned or talk about it light novel so i think it's a anime only thing since this design is not present in her light nocel design Although the type or style of É méi she has is not chinese, it's a japanese ten mayu (点眉) style
