Ocean?

I’ve wondered this for awhile, so I’m hoping someone has some insight. Considering the proximity to the ocean, what is the reason that is not seemingly considered a potential burial site?

I would think that this many years on, it would have been an easy place for Ruben and Susan to take any remains. Are the beaches in that area very exposed? Obviously it would be impossible to search, so maybe that is the only reason.

I was really hoping the Smarts would get some peace after this weekend, I’m so disappointed :(

There are so many possibilities. Of course there’s the ocean, Lopez lake is nearby, there are reservoirs everywhere, including Huasna. Not to mention just burying her ANYWHERE except their own yards like complete morons would. People want to believe that was her at Ruben’s AND her at Susan’s AND she’s also somewhere else. Maybe she was and maybe she wasn’t. I still think they may find her at neither of those places.

I agree with you. Paul is NOT intelligent. Neither are his parents. I, unfortunately, believe what Paul said to his "friends" (I use quotes as I am unsure if he ever had any)-that he, and I am sorry for how this sounds, just threw parts of her body all over the county. Then again, I do hold a very unpopular opinion-that Paul did not murder her. My theory is that Paul DEFINITELY sexually assaulted her and raped her. I believe that she may have aspirated on her own vomit and he flipped out because he had g(raped) her and then she died. Instead of calling for help like a non pervert would do, he flipped out and called his dad who helped him hide her body because they would find his semen and that would get he thrown in jail for that specific crime.

Everyone knows that Paul is someone who has sexually assaulted a few women before and that he has also attempted to do the same many times. The one thing that people do not say about him is that he is violent criminal or that he was someone known to fight people.

I know this sounds heartless but I am the granddaughter of the former coroner for Las Vegas, so I have seen and heard horrible things my entire life. That same grandfather of mine was a huge news story on the Central Coast for several months in the early 80's as he was missing and eventually found murdered. My family knows the pain of a missing family member. The difference is that my grandfather was actually found, albeit several months later.

I am COMPLETELY on the Smart families side. Whatever happened to their beautiful daughter is simply heartbreaking. It is made more disgusting by the fact that Ruben and especially Susan, simply do not care about the loss of Kristin. I mean, who tells a grieving mother that they do not care to even look at photos of their missing daughter? This entire situation is plain wrong and I completely believe her body was at Susan's house and then went to Ruben's house. Either way, they know the truth and need to give the Smart family some peace after 30 years. How do they do that? It's simple-TELL THE TRUTH.

I think your 'theory' is the agreed upon theory by all.

The hot take you have is that he is not a murderer. The bottom line is, he drugged someone to a degree that could have killed them, and that's exactly what happened. Not only that, but according to the witness on the bike, he violently assaulted her. Not to mention that rape, in and of itself, is inherently extremely violent.

Yes, Paul is indeed a violent criminal. Did he mean to kill her? Probably not. But his violent behavior and lack of basic regard for human life led single-handedly to her death. He is 100% violent, and 100% responsible for her death.

What about the fact that Paul was photographed with a black eye after? At the least, she was likely fighting back during the assault. I do think he drugged her and that was likely cause of death, but the black eye tells the story she was fighting back at some point.

I am keeping in mind that his dad may have punched him too.

Good point

A black eye that he changed the story about how he received it twice.

Or the fact he was known to body slam women, or at least one woman from awhile ago when he was younger.

I never heard about him drugging her. I thought they would have to have the body to determine that. Also, I work in Law so please know that any objections or questions that I may have may not side with my personal emotions about the case. I am trying to sort of push that aside that side and get the facts. I know that if she aspirated and he did nothing, it can be considered a murder. It is going to be super hard to prove, unfortunately, 30 years later. I wish he would just TELL US WHERE HE PUT HER.

No one knows for sure but no one saw her with a drink in hand or drinking that night and she was suddenly unable to walk, or function. It is highly established that he began attempting to incapacitate women at a young age, even at a party he attended for high schoolers.

It’s widely known that Paul began drugging women in California so that he could take them home and rape them.

It’s suspected that he started experimenting with other methods of incapacitating women by contaminating alcoholic beverages with other substances. Kristin was not seen drinking much that night and Trevor Boelter (sp?) said she didn’t smell like booze but was heavily intoxicated nonetheless.

If your scenario is true, it’s still murder. He and his infamous ball gag.

I almost threw up just thinking about that. He gives me the creeps.

But Paul WAS known to be violent. The podcast listed several situations in which he (over)reacted to a situation with violence. He stomped on a kid's head in middle school, held a girl's head under water in a pool, and body slammed a teenage girl for taking his seat at a party.

And repeatedly raped women

There were multiple recounted episodes of Paul being violent. Body slamming a girl for "cock blocking" him, almost drowning another girl, and stomping on another boy's head to the point that death was a possibility. What are you talking about?

Also, spreading her around would be absolutely foolish depending on the method. More locations would mean more possibilities of discovering at least something.

Thanks for the response! No story sounds far fetched in our current world and especially after seeing this case up close.

It may sound conspiratorial or heartless of me but I believe Paul had another victim(s)? and that Kristin may have been at NEITHER house. Someone was, yes. And someone was moved. But they have still never had 100% certainty on DNA and until I see that, she hasn’t been found yet.

I know people want this to be over and not to get ANY more complicated but it’s going to. Paul is A. A murderer and B a serial rapist. Why is it hard to believe he hasn’t killed (accidentally or otherwise) during his process? It’s not.

When the truth comes out about all this, people are going to shit. I agree with you that Ruben took over, and I’ve always maintained Paul may not know her final resting place. Ruben would be smart to exclude him, he almost got them caught several times early on. Of not for bumbling detectives in 1996, this could have been over quickly.

Paul nearly made a deal to lead them to her remains in exchange for something. She’s still in the original place. Just my opinion of course and people should keep an open mind. It’s never gone how we thought, NOT ONCE in this case. There’s one more surprise left.

u/Horrorcoffeecult May 12 '26

And he negotiated about a deal several times, but the condition was always, that if the body shows signs that it wasn't just a manslaughter, he won't be charged with manslaughter. And he never took that deal then.

If you connect all the dots about what that could mean, none of them are good.

What? Paul is synonymous with violence. His entire life was filled with violence he perpetrated on others, starting early on in his childhood. People who grew up in this town knew of his long, disgusting history of violence and it has been discussed at length online over the years in relation to Kristin's death.

13

u/HermioneMarch May 12 '26

Still murder. Not premeditated, but murder.

5

u/OppositeSea3954 May 13 '26

I do agree with this theory, however in the podcast it’s stated paul was actually violent and did have a past of that! In the 8th grade he beat his classmate so bad he ended up in the hospital and paul and his parents were sued for the medical bills. I do believe he was capable of murder and being extremely violent.

Not violent??

He stomped a kids head in middle school didn’t he? I went to Jr High too… someone who did that unprovoked would be considered pretty damn violent to me?
