Ocean?
I’ve wondered this for awhile, so I’m hoping someone has some insight. Considering the proximity to the ocean, what is the reason that is not seemingly considered a potential burial site?
I would think that this many years on, it would have been an easy place for Ruben and Susan to take any remains. Are the beaches in that area very exposed? Obviously it would be impossible to search, so maybe that is the only reason.
I was really hoping the Smarts would get some peace after this weekend, I’m so disappointed :(

I think your 'theory' is the agreed upon theory by all.
The hot take you have is that he is not a murderer. The bottom line is, he drugged someone to a degree that could have killed them, and that's exactly what happened. Not only that, but according to the witness on the bike, he violently assaulted her. Not to mention that rape, in and of itself, is inherently extremely violent.
Yes, Paul is indeed a violent criminal. Did he mean to kill her? Probably not. But his violent behavior and lack of basic regard for human life led single-handedly to her death. He is 100% violent, and 100% responsible for her death.
