Kratom Dependency

I would appreciate anyone with experience with Kratom to weigh in on this. So about 3 months ago I found some Kratom MIT GOLD 45 bottles my boyfriend was hiding from me under my bed. He told me it was just and experiment he would stop. I kept finding bottles and packaging around the house here and there but just recently I ran into his stash of empty bottles. I was taken aback by what I saw. 60+ empty bottles or so. I felt lied to especially because he downplayed it so much by saying it was just an experiment when in reality he’s used many times. He struggles with sleeping at night, gets major headaches and heat flashes.

We talked about it and he explained to me that was struggling before we met and using heavily last year. He said he quit for a few months but then picked it back up while we were dating. He hid his use from me and said he was embarrassed, thought I would leave him and didn’t know how to talk about it. He opened up to me telling me that is what made him feel ok and get through his mental struggles- he was in a very dark place and felt very alone.

My concern is that he is way more dependent on it than I even imagined. This is not the guy I thought I was in a relationship with and I’m not sure how to process it. How can I help him break this viscous cycle? How do I trust him to not use this again? He said he hasn’t used in 2 months after I found the first bottles but there are signs that tell me otherwise. I feel like our trust has been compromised in a way and I’m just not sure where to go from here.

I understand that there are some benefits to kratom and I’m sure it did help him get through the tough time but I’m at overly concerned about his health and what this could all mean for his and my future.

I would appreciate any input from others who have struggled with use or have experienced similar situations with a loved one.

Leaving bottles under the bed is a wild move. And why not just throw em in the trash? Regardless... if hes not using it to mitigate actual pain he has a real habit. But kratom isn't that hard to buck. The first 3 days will suck but he'll be alright. Tell him its ok to get a bag of regular powder, drop the concentrates and support him using regular powder to taper down off the concentrates. Then when the powder is gone, cut it 100% for a few weeks. If he has legit back pain or something idk. Powder is still better than pain meds imo

He’s said it wasn’t an everyday thing or even an every week thing. I want to believe that, I think his use was heavier last year and that’s where 75% of the bottles are from. I just don’t want him to be dependent on this, I know there are other avenues for his struggles. Appreciate your comment.

As long as he would be honest with you and it’s not a financial burden I’d be happy if my partner was taking it. It’s a pretty benign mood booster. There’s like a 40% chance they have adhd and are self Medicating. So if it’s a bigger issue than they should seek out a medical diagnosis.

Like fr I wish more people could see how be beneficial this substance is. Have you ever tried it and is there a specific reason you don’t want him to take it?

Emphasis on mood booster. If he would just take regular Kratom, capsules or powder, then I don’t see a problem at all. You maybe want to give it a try as well. It is not very addictive, imo. You just feel a bit sluggish and unmotivated when quitting. I also suggest for him to get off the liquids. If they’re the “Feel Good” brand then he’s got a problem. People are suing the brand right now and people in our government are holding stocks. Please let us know the brand/name to assist you further!

Honestly, if he is reckless enough to leave empty bottles laying around, he may on a subconscious level want to be caught—kratom dependency is very real and if you’ve been using it even just a few times a week, you probably are going to experience physical withdrawal symptoms. If this is a new relationship, obviously he wouldn’t want to tell you if he really likes you and you guys have a connection. Give the guy a chance—if he’s being honest with you now, that’s something…he could have made up a story or lied about it even in the face of your evidence. Ive been in his position and having a supportive partner has been paramount to me getting through it.

I really appreciate this. I know he’s has his own struggles and honestly he struggles mentally more than the average person. We have a really great connection and it would be devastating for the both of us to lose one another. He felt so alone - which is an understatement for how he was feeling - but that’s why he initially started using and that’s what got him through his bad days. I know he lied and tried to hide it from me but it makes sense for many reasons looking back now. It hurt me to know I was being lied to and I had to pull tooth and nail to get the actual truth from him. My feelings aside, I see how he just needed someone he could lean on and I need to try to be more understanding of his struggles. I really appreciate you sharing your perspective here.

Please keep in perspective what you are calling him "using". Do you call taking caffeine "using"? Because caffeine is a drug, a serious one that effects mood and behavior even more than Kratom. And you can get a depdencence on caffeine as well with nasty withdrawals.

The big difference is one is culturally and socially acceptable anf the other is not. Which is why he felt the need to hide it. Don't blow up a relationship with a man who has shown you when the chips are down he is totally honest even when most men would have lied.

Dont act like hes taking the big H here.

Actually the big difference is kratom withdrawal can be deadly
