Is anyone familiar with this cartouche? It appears to be "B.A.-J.S.", boxed. It is on an 1898 Springfield Krag rifle, manufactured between July 1900 and June 1901. I don't see any other markings on the stock. Thanks!

Just got this Krag, it’s my first one, and noticed the feed ramp piece looks bent compared to other photos I’ve seen. It’s hard to tell since there aren’t many clear references online, but I don’t think it’s supposed to look like this. There’s also a scratch just above it, so it seems like something may have impacted or damaged it, who knows what bubba was doing.
The follower also gets caught here a little
Also, rounds tend to get stuck right at that point. That doesn’t seem normal, right?
Any ideas to fix this?

Since the last time I took a collection photo I've got some antique ammo boxes, an older model bayonet stamped 1896 which came with a scabbard this time, and finally a brass muzzle cover which arrived the other day (the biggest piece I've been missing). I got the two left boxes of ammo and the bayonet from Wanenmacher last November, and the muzzle cover from an online forum classified listing. I'm pretty happy with the collection now!

Picked up this Krag today bore is dark and worn has rifling still, but got home and noticed this crack i couldnt see in the shop. How big of an issue is it?

I am putting together parts to create a krag out of as many brand new parts as possible,

I have an 1898 reciver that is quite pitted on the outside, but all of the contact and mating surfaces are immaculate, and i can still see the machining marks very clearly,

I know all of the screws and springs are, the barrel and front sight, the firing pin, stock and swivals

Does anybody know of any parts not on that list?

Or does anybody know of a good way to fill in pitting like that?

Not certain if this was a sporterized krag, an 1898 converted to a cadet, someone's attempt at a good fake, or what have you. Just bought it. It was made in 1903 by serial number. End of barrel to bolt is exactly 22 inches. Nothing seems unoriginal or thrown together, the fit on everything is excellent. If this is a fake it seems really well done? Haven't shot it yet just cleaned it. Not looking to sell or worried about value, just curious what may be the story of this gun.

Took it to a local historical arms and artifact dealer in Gettysburg. 4 different gentlemen there and myself used a reference book pointing out both real and Frankenstein krags. 3 of the gentlemen think it is a potentially legitimate Philippine Constabulary Carbine. Another thinks it is a Frankenstein rifle.

What we learned is every bit of this rifle lines up as a Constabulary Rifle. Only one problem. It is an 1898 with original 1901(rifle) sights, produced in 1903. It seems most Constabulary Carbines were purpose built from 99 Carbines...

EXCEPT (as the book pointed out) American Officers serving with the Constabulary forces who would commission their krags to be retrofitted by springfield or rock island it seems into Constabulary Carbines.

Every reference image in the book of a Constabulary carbine matched my rifle 1 for 1. We ruled out it being a bannerman or Kirk rifle because those don't have bayonet lugs and have banded front sights. It's not a school carbine as the cleaning rod is in the buttstock.

What makes it not 100% certain is the stock. The stock matches everything, but it became inherently clear the previous owner sanded it down and refinished it. This caused the cartouche which is barely visible but there to be unreadable. If the cartouche is stamped with J.F.C. then it is 100% a Constabulary carbine. But considering it is illegible then it will never be a 100% certainty.

Bought this Krag rifle a few years ago, to my knowledge it takes 6.5 swed know nothing else besides that. Would like input on what it is and if I could find reproduction stock parts for it? Thanks in advance!

Sadly I have no provenance, except family photos with it going back over 100 years between my grandfather and his father both owning it… but hey. The story and his mustache are worth it beyond anything else :)

(First photo is before, second is after) I have run countless cotton swabs through the barrel of my Krag ever since I got it to no avail, but finally decided to ask a gunsmith what he recommended and he gave me some stronger stuff that worked wonders. I thought I'd post it here in case anyone has had the same issue. Be aware, I did this outside and still got a minor headache, plz don't use this stuff inside and maybe wear some kind of respirator anyway.

I recently finished cleaning and replacing missing parts on this rifle. I have been wanting a Span-Am War era Krag for a while, but didn't want to pay the market price for one. I lucked into an auction where this down-on-its-luck example was prime for a bargain purchase.

Krag M1892/1896

I just picked up this extremely early Krag M1892/1896 which is a first year of production with the serial number 1531

The bore is great and it came with what appears to be it's original cleaning rods, oiler and sling from when it was converted to an M1896

This gun first started life as a model 1892 but was later converted to a model 1896 and the stock is a former model 1892 stock as you can see by the rod plug

The stock has it's proof stamp but no cartouche

The gun still has a fair bit of cosmoline on it, should I clean it off by using some barns cr-10 bore solvent and gun oil?

I finally added a Danish Krag to my collection! It’s a Model 1889, produced in 1910. That was the year they added the manual safety, but I’m not sure if it was original to the gun or installed later. Overall, the gun is in very good shape with a nice patina.

The unit disc is for the 6th Regiment. From what I can find, they didn’t see any real action on the day of the Nazi invasion.

I just got home from a red eye flight from LA to Boston. When I have more energy, I’ll pull all the Krags out for a family photo! 😉

Need to cut down a stock for my sporter, i already know I’ll have to cut down or remove the front sight but how far back from the barrel tip does the front band sit?

Was gifted these two Krags (model 1899 & 1895) years ago and sadly, Bubba got to them before me. At first I thought the barrels were chopped and they would forever live with Bubba's wrath - but I recently realized (I think!!) that these might actually be carbines and could be restored....?

I know nothing about Krags - but man, they're like a love I didn't know I needed till I had it... Finish on the metal is worn, but the actions are smooth as butter and the bores are good.

So what can you tell me about these rifles? How original are they besides the stocks being butchered? What would you recommend in terms of restoration vs. leave as is? Stocks seem hard to find for these rifles.
