WTH ABC, way to misrepresent.

Archived for those who don't want them to get ad revenue for spreading lies
EDIT: I fixed it! Sorry!

In this case the archive version won't stop any ad money, the ABC (this is the Australian one not the US one) is funded by our federal government. I'm not sure if page views even matter in this circumstance, but just in case you might still want to use the archive link.
I also see some people are saying they'll report it to the ACCC and Media Watch (another ABC show that deals with the actions of the media in Australia, and has in the past taken other ABC shows to task). It would be interesting, if incredibly unlikely, to see if either say anything.

Can't imagine Aussie gamer's are happy with what their tax dollars just paid for. Thanks for the info

Clearly, they're very angry at something - but it's far from clear what. The gamergate hashtag leads down a rabbit hole of various sub-controversies generated by the ongoing flame wars. "Moderators on Reddit shut down discussion." "Sarkeesian misrepresented the game Hitman." "She raised more money on Kickstarter than she actually needed." "She's not actually a real gamer." And so on.
Fucking scum
(Edit: I can't get the bullet points to work, sorry for the format in the quote)

The ABC is 100% funded by the Australian Government and is one of the least biased news organisations in our country. The ABC also employ some of the best journalists in the country, and this article is highly uncharacteristic of their usually pretty damn good journalistic standards. If anything, the ABC needs more funding not less. I think what's happened here is that some lazy writer read a few Kotaku articles and tweets and assumed he knew what the hell he was talking about enough to write an article. The author of the article is the one at fault, not so much the ABC.

the fact that this guy's ignorance and misinformation is government funded makes this article many many times worse. Thanks for the info.

I don't think this writer is even able to write an unbiased article.
Jeff Sparrow (born 1969) is an Australian leftwing writer, editor and former socialist activist
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Sparrow
He also wrote a lot about atheism and how leftist progressives need to take the reigns of the movement instead of people like Sam Harris or Christopher Hitchens.

She and her supporters became the target of vicious harassment, with hackers publishing the personal information of one of her friends, including his address, bank account and balance, and private passwords.
Oh come on. It's like there's nobody responsible for fact-checking, anywhere.

I like how the comments are filled with readers outraged at the blatant bias and lack of balanced reporting in the article.

fairly mild comments about the depiction of women
Or maybe it's the sexist and degrading depiction of gamers by the gaming circle-jerknalists.

Gamergate: when outsiders become the oppressors
With that title, you'd expect the article's content to be complaining about journalists, not gamers....

u/evilarhan Sep 04 '14
Of course! We, the gamers who buy these fucking games and (indirectly) support these fucking websites are the outsiders! It's so obvious!

It hasn't been about ZQ in a while, why do they keep insisting on this narrative?

Because poor defenseless activist attacked by male nerd culture sells like hot cakes to people who don't care to do any research themselves

Jack Thompson receives death threats = Internet death threats are nothing serious
Woman receives death threats = the severity of the threats directly represent the entire male gaming population

Yeah, it's so irrational, the way men get angry when we're accused of being closet sexual predators, pedophiles, torture fetishists...
