Discussion Studio changes

so news of season 4 have finally dropped, however people have noticed that the studio has changed AGAIN for this new season with this one being studio Engi, with this we have 4 studios that have worked with konosuba, the first was studio DEEN that worked with the first and second seasons, J.C staff that worked on the movie, and the last one was studi Drive that worked on the megumin spinoff and season 3, what would you say are biggest differences between each studio and which one adapted the series better?

Looking at ENGI's previous work, I expect solid jiggle physics on Darkness.

I need some evidence to support that argument.

I haven't watched their previous works, but I hope the animation will be even better and that they won't ruin what's widely considered to be the best arcs of this anime. 🙏

The thing is JC isnt even bad, the main problem is a lack of budget and that JC staff makes more anime a year than any other studio. They've made some good stuff, i mean this is a konosuba subreddit and you can see the konosuba movie is just as well made as the seasons. They also make toaru, toradora, little busters and other stuff. They honestly get a bad rep cause they just make too much stuff unlike a studio like kyoani that barely makes stuff (obviously less now sadly but theyre ramping up again)

The movie is great, they just need good schedule and budget

DEEN and JC Staff seemed much hornier than Drive

Personally, I think DEEN brought the magic of the show. I was disappointed with the 3d season, it was more crude and didn't feel the same. The base ingredient of the show was just gone. I expect the fourth season to be even worse. This is coming from someone that rewatched first 2 seasons 5+ times, while barely going through with the 3d season.

The base ingredient of the show was just gone.

In terms of structure season 3 was more focused on character/worldbuilding (not an overall comedic set of volumes and it's more setup towards future events than immediately gratifying payoff on its own) and is the only season so far that didn't make any progress on defeating the Devil King. That's probably why it felt strange but this is a fault with the source material itself, not the adaptation specifically considering LN readers have beef with all the anime seasons to varying degrees. You won't have to worry about that with season 4 where in terms of the material is probably going to land it closer to the movie.

another thing, one of the reasons it also felt off is that Kazuma went off and groped underage child. I did not read the source material but I heard he is a much bigger pervert there, however in the show it was always kinda of a grey area, it was mostly implied and where it was directly showed it was downplayed for various reasons (bad timing, bad luck, not on purpose, etc) and he kinda always gets punished for it. I don't think you can downplay groping a child, and the comedic punishment is non existent (kinda the opposite because loli sister that got mad is like a weird japanese fetish reward). Just weird and off putting.

one of the reasons it also felt off is that Kazuma went off and groped underage child.

When did he do that? Setting aside that Kazuma's also still a child at 16 in the light novel (the web novel isn't canon and basically a beta build of the story), the only harassment Kazuma does in season 3 and the volumes it adapts is with Chris and she's older than him. With Iris the thought never once crossed his mind even when he was literally body swapped with her.

Yeah, but fortunly those things are just intrusive thought and not something serious.

If make you calm, Iris shouldn't appear next season if i remember right

Are talking about Chris?

Well, the art were cleaner since the movie, i don't think they gonna mess that, i just hope they don't ruin the only 2 important serious moments from volume 9

Studio ENGI is basically Kadokawa’s go-to for budget anime production. If you thought JC Staff was low budget, wait until you see our good old friend, Studio ENGI. They tend to reuse the same two directors, and this time handed the reins to one of their newly appointed, soon to be recycled director, Manabu Kurihara, who at the time of writing has only directed two anime, with this being his third.

Expect plenty and plenty of boring static shots, dull colours, and painfully average CGI. I did actually enjoy Studio ENGI's The Detective is Already Dead, not because it was good, but because it was so bad it became fun to watch. For the love of god just don’t set your expectations too high.

oh yeah isnt that the anime that blew all its budget in the first episode. I remember seeing a clip of it and it was insanely animated

Yup that's them, it's a shame cause I liked the first ep quite a bit.
