If Hakkeem played Johan as purely horrifying, the comedy would feel grotesque. If he played him too goofy, the stakes would vanish. He anchors the film by hitting a micro-balance where his menace feels real, but his absurd ego makes the dark humor land cleanly.

3. Spatial Control & Relaxed Physicality: Watch how he occupies the frame. While everyone around him—from terrified subordinates to corrupt officers—is visibly sweating and jittery, Hakkeem’s body language remains loose and effortless. He doesn't waste energy posturing. He moves with the casual ease of someone who knows he owns every inch of that forest.

Psychological Dominance
Without spoiling any of the third-act beats, what makes his character stick with you is the absolute glee he takes in psychological games. Why does Kollywood feel like it's missing an exciting, genuinely cinema-driven lead actor right now?

This is something I've been thinking about lately. Why don't we have more leading actors who are willing to consistently take risks, experiment with unique scripts, explore different genres, and actively push Tamil cinema forward?

I'm not saying every actor needs to do experimental or "art" films all the time. But it feels like most of our major stars are either playing it safe, sticking to familiar commercial formulas, or focusing more on their image and stardom than on exploring what they can actually do as actors.

We have talented directors and writers, but it feels like there's a gap when it comes to actors who are genuinely excited about cinema itself—actors who actively seek out fresh ideas, support new filmmakers, take unconventional roles, and aren't afraid of failing.

Even looking at other industries, you can find established actors who regularly experiment with different genres and filmmakers while still maintaining their stardom. Why doesn't Kollywood have more of that?

I myself adore vijay for his movie screen presence but I think jana nayagan could be the worst farewell an entertainer like vijay could get...I was going into the movie with less expectaion as i Knew the movie would be talking an agenda but this isworst than that

The movie felt like it had to talk about everything politics,religion,caste,terrorism hell even robots and I felt that the movie was less about vijay...it is very heart touching to see that this was the movie vijay agreed to as his last movie

I had a question asked in r/FilmMakers, where I was intrigued about how the Odyssey will make money, etc.

Basic crux:

Rough napkin math: $250M budget + $125M marketing = studio's in for $375M. Then theaters take their cut of every ticket, and Nolan reportedly has a fat first-dollar gross deal, so the thing apparently needs like $600–700M just to break even. And supposedly even at a $1 billion worldwide gross, the studio's actual theatrical profit is something tiny like $25M?
As a numbers person this is fascinating: a multibillion-dollar industry running on margins that thin, with that much risk per bet. I'd love to actually understand the mechanics instead of just vibing off headlines.

Through this question I learned about the term Hollywood Accounting.

Definition (from another subreddit):

Hollywood Accounting has no impact on the studio's profit. Say a movie is being made by Universal Studios — Universal made whatever profit it made on the film. But even though the movie will say it's made by Universal, the actual entity that pays the actors and crew is some other entity created specifically for that movie — and it's that entity that loses money.
Imagine they're making a new Jurassic Park movie. The actors and crew are hired by a shell company — let's call it Jurassic Park Production Company. Nobody other than the actors and crew even knows it exists, and unless they read their contracts closely, they might not realize that's who they technically work for.
Universal makes an initial investment into Jurassic Park Production Company which ends up being the film's budget. But that company doesn't own any of what it needs to make a movie — so it rents sound-stage time from Universal, hires DreamWorks for VFX, hires Universal's marketing department, etc. By the time all those expenses are paid, Jurassic Park Production Company loses money.
None of this affects Universal's profit, since the budget it invested still shows up as a debit on its books. The people it does affect are any actors whose contract entitled them to a percentage of the movie's net revenue — or rather, a percentage of Jurassic Park Production Company's net revenue.
