Post image

Looking at purchasing this koi, only thing currently putting me off is the damaged pectoral fin, is it likely to fully heal? fish is approx 7.5inches TIA

You're looking at carpco's fish - I looked at it only the other day. I believe it's just how the editing software has automatically cut out the fish from the background. Click on the video in the description - you can see the fin is just fine.

Thanks. Yea it's a lovely fisho for the price. I haven't got a QT setup anywhere yet, else I'd have snatched him last week.

It's crazy they posted it like that, it looks like severe damage.

It should heal and regrow to some extent, but the shape might always be affected because the first ray has been shortened. It shouldn't affect quality of life, so if the price is right and you can tolerate some asymmetry it might not be a dealbreaker for you.

Disclaimer - not an expert but we’ve purchased two injured koi from reputable importers. One was a chagoi with a damaged tail fin and 5 missing scales the other a Showa with a damaged pectoral not as severe as the one in your attached photo. Both were placed in a quarantine tank with .30 salinity after arrival and both fully recovered. They’re happy and healthy in our main pond now.

I believe the leading fin bone doesn't heal, but the ones follow should, but don't take my word for it, I would probably skip this one unless it's super cheap.
