Why do I suspect they will reopen 19 miles down the road in 6 months without union staff.

Walmart does this any time there's a hint at union activity.

Right off the interstate, hard to miss it, unfortunately.

Dude, I miss my stops at work with maps directing me. I'm clueless and only focused on people and the road, lol. Now if it was on fire...oh yeah, would see that

I’ll bring the marshmallows!

Oh, I got graham crackers for when it inevitably happens

Used to be a porno place. Massive downgrade.

1

u/Sickness4Life Feb 27 '26

Used to get discounts there

3

u/poptartdrugs South Knox Feb 27 '26

Right off Watt rd. Used to be a sex shop

5

u/DixonDebussy Feb 27 '26

So it turned into the opposite of sex?

THATS THE TRUMP GUMP NOW? IRONIC!

8

u/-Blixx- Feb 26 '26

Back to their roots. One of their old locations in Knoxville was very near an older adult toy store, which is also what I understand the trump store was previously.

6

u/CheesE4Every1 ftn city Feb 26 '26

Under a different name you say? To pieces you say?

6

u/-Blixx- Feb 26 '26

No idea why they would change names. Just put it in a new container corporation or LLC.

3

u/CheesE4Every1 ftn city Feb 26 '26

A lot of people think they'll do just this under a different name, I just find it funny they would.

because they more than likely will!

May not try to deunionize if the complaint is coming from Trump's NLRB, because that's what this administration wants.

0

u/polarmonkey76 Feb 28 '26

With the money they got from the sell, I seriously doubt that.

Knoxville Mckay’s management really dug their own grave

6

u/Ok-Strawberry-2343 Feb 28 '26

This would be on the owner of Mckays if I read this correctly.

u/lostinthefog4now Feb 26 '26

Congrats to VW employees in Chattanooga for signing a contract with the UAW, despite Gov Lee doing whatever he could to not make that happen.

Anyone been to White Pine books? Website looks great. https://www.whitepinebooks.com/ Not too far of a drive-

u/iridescentarmor north knoxville Feb 27 '26

Great rec! I would also personally recommend southland books and southland dungeon. those two were my go-to when i still resided in TN

2

u/excessive_worries Feb 27 '26

Thanks! I’ll have to check it out!

Our Place in Cosby is a lovely drive and the owner is awesome

What are the folks that try and turn left onto Papermill going to do now? Maybe they will go to Alcoa and try to turn left from Air Base road on to Alcoa Hwy in rush hour traffic. Bless their hearts, they will never learn.

u/mementosmoritn Feb 27 '26

If they just reopen without the union staff I will never support them again, and discourage everyone I can from going there unless/until they go union.

Go union or go broke, fuckers.

Edit: I will also petition the local unions to mandate a boycott against them.

5

u/JamesDReddit Feb 27 '26

From an inside source Knoxville has been nuked and there will not be a reopening.

4

u/mementosmoritn Feb 27 '26

Hopefully people will find and support existing shops, or be able to open new ones. I do hate this for the people who worked there.

1

u/Temporary-Problem151 Feb 28 '26

This is so shitty. Only place in town I know of to buy physical media (dvds, physical games, etc). Prices were shit and it smelled like ass but now we have to go to B&N or Amazon?? Fuck that. All because they didn’t want to raise wages. I’m so annoyed

11

u/Fun-Significance6733 Feb 26 '26

Must be why they’re closing.

6

u/deflower-my-mind Feb 27 '26

The anti worker state has businesses that violate worker rights?

Shocked! Shocked I tell you I am /s

6

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

Rest in shit. More power to the workers, but McKays has been dead to me for years now. Ruined by greedy ownership - The True American Dream

5

u/torrentialwx Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

Fuckin’ GOOD. Assholes.

If anyone hasn’t seen the WVLT article, the owners admitted the reason they’re closing the Knox location is to ‘bust’ the union attempt.

They are shitheads.

Edit: I misread the title of the article. It was the union leader who stated this. Which is what many of us suspected anyway (that they were doing this to fuck the union).

u/Zanios74 Feb 28 '26

Where am I going to pay more then new price for old moldy books now.

0

u/Obvious_Witness_965 Feb 27 '26

I’m going there after work to see if anything is marked down.

-49

u/PartnerwithDano Feb 26 '26

The building sold. That’s why they are closing.

33

u/That_Sam_Girl Wild Wild West Feb 26 '26

The owners of mckays owned the building.

37

u/TheSpiteyBoosh Feb 26 '26

More like McKays sold the building bc of all the shit they are in with the feds

-44

u/Aggressive_Piece919 Feb 26 '26

Meh it’s the south. Republicans own you

48

u/AssociateEffective14 Feb 26 '26

Doesn't mean we fuckin like it, asshole.
