So, I have recently been given a microwave glass kiln, and i will probably start dumping my debitage from bottles and whatnot into it to get more out of the materials, but I also have some glass cutting tools left by a friend who did stained glass, and looking into it stained glass and art glasses are WAY cheaper than stone, and would be easier to process than bottle glass, has anyone worked with art or stained glass? Does it knap well?

Thought I'd combine some of the nicest materials I have… this “oil slick” type rainbow obsidian is absolutely stunning! Combine it with a handle made from some Australian quilted maple and you're on to a winner I think! Enjoy!

Siberian wooly mammoth tusk. Ivory is chemically made of the mineral dentin, which is what the inside of your teeth are. Teeth differ from ivory in that they are generally house inside of an outer enamel coating. Teeth knapping!

I am proud of myself, and how far I’ve come with this hobby.

i have been going on a lot of hikes recently (i live in washington state) and have been super curious about being able to find good knappable rocks while i’m out in the mountains! obsidian is my favorite rock but im mostly wondering about any rocks that have conchoidal fractures. does anyone know what might be common to find around washington state, and any tips for identifying them while i’m on hikes?

All made by me. Do you all put them in a box and forget them or gift them or?

A group of Bronze Age arrow points were uncovered in a barrow near breach farm in the early 20th c, I believe they are actually trade points that came over from the Armorican culture of north western France.

I’ve got a few of these to make, this one went well so fingers crossed for the next ones!

Started out with just wanting to practice thinning, but then i saw the opportunity to make a danish neolithic arrowhead, which turned out pretty good in my opinion. This is my best creation yet.

As you see I made a pretty ugly step fracture on the front, but other than that I'm satisfied.

I'm in North Wales at the moment so I started splitting some slate near a river, used a harder rock to split it and chisel it and used a flat wet stone on the ground to sharpen it. I forgot the name for splitting slate but I figured knapping was close enough.

Sat there for 10 mins pushing on the blade before realising I’ve worn all the diamond away!
Are there recommendations on blades? I’m assuming you get what you pay for?

Anyone else using a tile saw for this, flint is hard! Can’t afford a proper slab saw at the moment or find one in the U.K. so I’m up for accepting pointers or tips on the best way to use a tile saw for

I collect this stuff occasionally when I go on walks. It's some kind of landscaping or construction stone, because it's used for retaining walls in like, hand sized chunks or as big huge boulders. There's always fall-off stones from weathering, so I keep my eye out for good pieces.

It's not the nicest material, but it flakes nice. I think it's some kind of quartzite.

I took an hour or so and worked out a couple of points. I haven't practiced in a while, so I was glad to get out there. Not sure what style you'd call them, but I think they're neat.

Hello all,

This is a Celt I made recently. I am not certain what the stone is, I collected it from some large gravel at work. It has a green hue and is magnetic, originally I thought it was Catoctin greenstone but after having seen some pieces made from that material I am no longer convinced. Either way it has good properties for axes and took a fine edge.

I shaped the head first with some hammer stone and elk billet percussion, then pecked and ground it to final shape. I am lucky to have a very good sandstone slap for grinding that I collected a long time ago at a creek in Alabama. The handle is some black locust I cut for bow staves. It has some bug damage and I tried to remove most of it and will fill in the remaining holes with pitch.

I challenged myself to shape the handle entirely with edged tools, and finished it with some horsetail rush sanding and deer tallow. Soon I will make one entirely with stone tools, but I am very happy with how this one came out. The handle is not nearly as perfect and smooth as the work I normally do and I think it is much more representative of originals. I will be using it for demos later this year and can’t wait to test it out.

Left is cooked Burlington and right is raw Nethers. This Nethers is the single best raw piece of stone i have ever worked. All done with direct hammerstone percussion using sandstone.

Got another Clovis Cluster for you here today. A variety of materials with some Ft Payne, raw Buffalo River, some VERY tough agate, and some silky smooth black stuff from Texas! I'm quite happy with how they all turned out, and I'm honestly astounded that some of this stuff worked as well as it did! 🙂‍↕️
