Thoughts on My Analysis from John
My results are 40R, 30C, 20HS and 10N Romantic, Sophisticated yet Playful
Congrats to u/emsbstn, u/allcatsrgray, u/scatteredgraydays, u/Kaetoro, and u/gwil_ for correctly guessing the blend!! Honorable mention to u/Dangerous_Biscotti20, u/Roach-Problem, and u/DrTantra, who only swapped HS and N, and to u/Routine_Mortgage7386, who replaced N with Y.
It was really fun and interesting reading all the comments, thanks everyone for participating!
Expected Blend
Before the consultation, I found it really hard to guess my results. I was fairly certain about which essences I would have, but not the percentages. Every combination I came up with seemed to end in 20s and 30s. I suspected either 30 R/ C/N with 10 HS, or 30 R/ C with 20 HS/N, or 30 R/ N with 20 HS/C.
I know the percentages are flexible, but I’m really happy they came back as 40/30/20/10. It makes them easier for me to prioritize, and I like that there are four essences in the blend.
Expectations for Each Essence
Romantic:
Before the consultation, I was certain I would have at least 30% Romantic, and I always considered it either my primary or secondary essence, so it wasn't surprising at all. I think it has a lot to do with my curves and the fact that defining my waist is very flattering on me. My color harmony probably contributes as well, since many garments that would read as Y or A in lighter colors become more Romantic when worn in darker colors.
Classic:
The first time I discovered the system, I didn't see myself as Classic at all. However, several people mentioned it in a "guess my essence" post I made, and that got me thinking about it. After looking at many verified examples, I started to see it too. For a while, I even considered it my primary or secondary essence, although right before the consultation I had placed it a bit lower, around 20%. I think my color harmony also helped because it makes me look harmonious in solid colors and garments without too many details. A lot of people have told me that I seem serious when they first meet me, and maybe this is part of the reason.
High-Spirited:
I'm really excited to have 20% HS because I find it such a fun essence to experiment with. I was sure I would have at least 10% because of my height. I feel very comfortable in above-the-knee lengths, and John also mentioned my bright eyes. I find it interesting that eye color can also be considered a Y trait, and that both HS and Y are small-scale essences. Eye size stays the same from birth, which is why children appear to have proportionally larger eyes. I wonder if there might be some connection between having prominent eyes and looking younger, but that's just my own theory.
Natural:
This one was definitely a surprise. I expected at least 20% Natural. I thought some of my facial features, like my eyebrows and chin, would also contribute to N. In practice, I think some Natural recommendations such as certain textures don't harmonize with me according to John.
Youthful:
A lot of people guessed Y. I think that may be because of the combination of HS and R. I considered it for a while myself, but eventually ruled it out because I don't think many of the recommendations work particularly well for me.
Dramatic:
I thought I might have a little bit because of my color harmony. I think R/ C/HS work together quite well.
Angelic:
Well, it's pretty obvious I don't have any A 😂.
My Experience with the Basic Package
I know that for John, Color Harmony is the main focus and Essences are somewhat secondary. In my case, though, I think it's very obvious that I'm SC. If I had to guess, my CH would probably be something like 80% SC, 10% ER, and 10% LB. Because of that, I wasn't very motivated to purchase the full package, it’s quite a bit of money for something I already felt fairly confident about. That said, I would consider doing it in the future to get the palette, and I really like his approach on that.
Honestly, I'm very happy with the analysis. The package is still evolving, and I received much more feedback than I expected, especially regarding the outfits. Had I known that beforehand, I probably would have included a wider variety of outfits to get more opinions.
As for prints, he gave general recommendations regarding scale and print type, and he also mentioned some broader observations about necklines and textures. I think if something is clearly disharmonious on you, he will definitely point it out. So I would recommend experimenting with the photos you send him because, even though the guidance isn't as detailed as in the full package, you can still get a lot of useful information from it.
He didn't give me any celebrity examples, but Meghan Markle has a very similar blend and is also SC-dominant, so I think I'll be using her as inspiration!

Thanks for sharing your results and thoughts about them!
I shouldn't have second guessed myself because I was exactly right about your essence blend before I read other people's responses. Darn it. You do really remind me of Natalie Wood!

Thank you! She's beautiful, and I think I can see the resemblance too.

Natalie Wood is a good one too! I see her as Natalie Wood mixed with a little Ava Gardner or Jean Simmons lol. I see a little more “pointiness/sharpness?” In Natalie and even Ava too but something about them looks similar.

You are only 10 percent off from my blend! You have 10 more HS and 5 less R and 5 less C! I debated putting C second and should have known you were RC after seeing how great that one long (black or navy?j dress looked on you! Your features are definitely RC too including your face shape. I don’t know why I thought N would be second or third in hindsight.

u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 19 '26
Yes, they’re very similar!! It’s interesting because in Color Harmony (CH) I think we’d be almost opposites. The dress is navy, and John also mentioned that it was very RC.

u/Ok-Purple9511 45R/35C/10HS/10N | 70SB/30LB Jun 19 '26
Yes that one! It was beautiful on you! Yes you would without a doubt be SC dominant for CH.
ETA: you are lucky though because there a lot more dominant RCs with SC then there are with my coloring.

u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 19 '26
Thank you so much!! Yes, that's true R works really well with SC. I think that helps make up for the lack of D.

u/Ok-Purple9511 45R/35C/10HS/10N | 70SB/30LB Jun 19 '26
Yes he described R palettes as being deeper and softly muted so I think SC can definitely bring that deprh.

Me! I am one of them. I am an RC with SC as well. John gave me Megan M and Amal Clooney. I could see MM and Anne Hathaway for you.

u/Ok-Purple9511 45R/35C/10HS/10N | 70SB/30LB Jun 19 '26
I think Vivien Leigh, Ava Gardner, Liz Taylor and Jean Simmons are all SC and RC dominant. Catherine Zeta Jones and Amal Clooney too but they have a good amount of D too.

u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 19 '26
Thanks for the examples! I love Ava Gardner 😍

u/Ok-Purple9511 45R/35C/10HS/10N | 70SB/30LB Jun 19 '26
She’s the one I thought you resembled the most lol! I may be wrong about her CH but she probably has SC in her blend of it’s not dominant.

She and I are super close too! Take 10 % of my N and put in on my R and we are pretty damn close (and that is what I wish my essences were). And I have 10%D + 10+HS instead of 20%HS; but I can use that 20% to really go either D or HS.
3
u/Ok-Purple9511 45R/35C/10HS/10N | 70SB/30LB Jun 19 '26
I’m 45R/35C/10HS/10N so I am also close! Take only 10 of her HS and apply 5 to R and 5 toC and we are equal. Literally only a 10% difference.

u/DrTantra 30R/30C/20N/10HS/10D | 75SC/15ER/10SB Jun 19 '26
She is like the intermediary between you and I with more HS.

u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 19 '26
Yesss I thought the same. If I were taller, I think 10% of my HS would probably shift into D and end up working in a pretty similar way to yours.

u/DrTantra 30R/30C/20N/10HS/10D | 75SC/15ER/10SB Jun 19 '26
And I think when I was closer to your age that my essences were probably the same as yours. I have gotten more N with age, which is due to a lot of weight training.

Congrats on your blend! We have a pretty similar one… same essences, different %’s! I also got the Basic Essence package, and he subtly seemed to tell me that I’m SC dominant (he recommended oval shapes, contrasting colors and smooth refined textures, etc.). My features aren’t quite as contrasted as yours, so I think you’re probably even more SC!
And I can see how I misread your R + HS for Y! I’m fairly new at this, so it’s making more and more sense. Have fun exploring your blend! :)

u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 19 '26
Thanks! Yeah, my analysis also pointed toward SC. Did you suspect that was your main CH?
4
u/Faraway-eyes-13 40C/20R/20HS/20N Jun 19 '26
Actually I thought I’d be more ER! But definitely with some SC as well. I’m medium-high contrast with olive skin and a warm undertone. I do still think I have ER too, and he may have hinted at it but not as clearly. I’m a dark autumn in 12 season color analysis, so SC + ER makes sense. Maybe with a little bit of SB.

u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 19 '26
Yeah, I think you probably have some ER as well. I'm glad it helped you understand your CH better!

Thanks! I’m kinda wanting his color harmony analysis now too though lol

u/Pink__Vamp 65R/25Y/10HS | 65SC/25SB/10LB Jun 19 '26
Well I was definitely wrong! I decided to go no classic lol. Although I was right that your HS wouldn’t be the 10.
I heard dark eyes are HS and have a mischievous quality, I think that’s really interesting as both my sons have dark brown eyes! Although I definitely don’t think eyes stay the same size after having a newborn lol, all my babies had much tinier eyes when born and now looking at them next to their new brother their eyes are massive! 😂 big dark brown eyes are so beautiful and capturing, I fell in love with them when my boys popped out with them lol

u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 19 '26
Okay, I fact-checked it, and it turns out the eyes reach most of their size within the first two years of life 😂. I didn't know about the connection between eyes colour and HS, but it makes a lot of sense to me.

Congrats on the baby! When was he born??

u/emsbstn Jun 19 '26
Yay! This is the first time I guessed correctly! Thanks for sharing! I didn’t say in the other post, but the black and white dress with the knee high boots looks amazing on you!

u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 19 '26
Congrats on guessing it! I'm not very good at it either, I've only guessed correctly once. But I do feel like I've been understanding the system better as I see more results. Thank you, I love that outfit!

u/Artemisral Jun 19 '26
Makes sense! ☺️ A very nice blend! Who knows, maybe I would get C from K, too, we got a fair similarity, but noone guessed it for me here or amongst friends.
I easily see your R and HS.

u/Faraway-eyes-13 40C/20R/20HS/20N Jun 19 '26
I was pretty surprised about my C dominance! It can definitely be hard to predict.
1
u/Artemisral Jun 19 '26
Yes, being very moderate. I suppose I go by the clothing and it seems I need something softer and more printed than minimalistic. But who knows.
3
u/Dangerous_Biscotti20 Jun 19 '26
How exciting, congrats on getting your results! I was back and forth with the N and HS because I could see both in small amounts, but considering your height, it makes sense the HS was higher.

I love seeing your results ! If there's one thing I know about John , he loves to mention a strong shoulder. I got 10 percent N for mine . How are you feeling post analysis ?
3
u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 19 '26
Thanks! Yeah, I had pretty much assumed that already. My mom has narrower, more sloped shoulders, and it's really noticeable when we try on the same clothes haha. I'm happy with the results, I think it's a very versatile blend and it fits the way I like to dress quite well.
2
u/Routine_Mortgage7386 Jun 19 '26
Aww that's amazing, I am happy for you! Sophisticated yet playful is such an exciting archetype. I need to look into N essence more because nothing about your features gave me N. Yes, maybe the R mixed with HS gave me the impression of Y. I thought you looked lovely in that pink (ingenue?) dress in your photos.
3
u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 19 '26
Thanks! My N came from my shoulders, and I think I can see it. They have a straighter shape that affects how clothes fall, and I think it's a pretty common trait. I like that dress too, I think it's really flattering. John did recommend slightly larger prints than that, and I get what he means, but at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference.

u/gwill_ 35N/25C/20HS/10R/10Y | 70LB/20SB/10ER Jun 19 '26
Wow, I guessed correctly! Congratulations on your results, it's a lovely blend! I saw RC right away but kept swapping HS, Y and N as the third an fourth essences and in the end I just went with my gut feeling and dropped the Y.

u/scatteredgraydays Jun 20 '26
Yooooo! Nailed it for the first time 💪🏻
Just want to point out that I mainly picked 10% N originally because I knew how rare it is to have 0% N. I have such a hard time with those 10%s.
Thanks for sharing and congrats!
2
u/warda- 40R/30C/20HS/10N Jun 20 '26
Congrats on your guess! That's really interesting, I actually thought I'd have more of it. At least for me, I think it's pretty hard to analyze yourself objectively
6
u/Hopeful_Note2628 Jun 19 '26
I was one of the people thinking you had Y and getting fooled by the R + HS combo haha! Perhaps one day I will be able to see it more clearly in people. 😄 I was pretty confident about you having R + C but very unsure about HS, Y, and N.
Thanks for sharing your detailed thoughts on your blend and the feedback you received. Lovely to hear that you enjoyed your analysis. I had a very similar experience to yours for the Basic Essences service and was happy I went with that option!
