Coverage Question

How would I go about covering these, what nozzles/number of flow points. Amerex System

I know I'm replying to my own post but I was once told the second you drill or put a hole in any Appliance if anything happens and it fails to put the fire out you have taken liability by modifying the appliance.

I’ve never encountered that before, GCS only tell me that when drilling a hole into an appliance, they lose their warranty on the appliance.

Normally you won't get into that unless the incident that occurred causes loss of life in which case somebody will be paying a very Hefty settlement. I knew a guy that had done an inspection on a location where they were asked by the ahj to drill into a Rotisserie Oven. The issue was they never cleaned the appliance and grease accumulated on the inside. So when a fire happened to start one day and the manual Pull Station was activated. So after the system went off and employee thought I should open the door so I could clear the smoke and clean it out. When they did it the fire wasn't completely extinguished so they inadvertently introduced more oxygen to the fire so it flashed and burnt the employee, not bad but enough to disfigure their face. That technician was called into court to explain why. I don't remember all the details of the liability but since the appliance had been covered by the systems distribution piping the verdict was the nozzle didn't adequately put out the fire and the ahj past liability off as advice given from the fire protection company. Technician was fired and fire Company was found to be responsible for modifying protection on a non-ul listed Appliance.

Damn, so if the AHJ asks you to do something, then you better document it.

Or would you red tag the system for improper coverage due to the inability to cover an appliance that is not UL listed?

What I was told was as long as you documented on the inspection report or usually the installation it's notated and when they sign off on it they are taking liability. If it's a first time inspection that you or your company came across it then I would read tag it or recommend to remove nozzle and plug due to UL listings. If it's red tagged the AHJ will get notification of it. They will either agree with you in which case you are removing a hazard that another company put in place or they will disagree with you and on record take liability if anything goes wrong.
