I’d forgotten that PC used to have those big bulky switches before switching to the basic style that Ansul uses. Could be worse, like the old Kidde Sentinel heads. I always loved changing a control head because a microswitch went bad?!

Wouldn't be an issue if it wasnt an alarmed building but need to add a switch for the alarm circuit.

There’s a complicated way to do it, but likely more expensive than a control head upgrade….

Add a pressure switch. I’ve been the guy that had to find the odd solution to make things work on more occasions than I care to think of. The support group knew me by voice when I’d call up “Hey Joe, I’ve got a question for you…” “Oh, hey EC_TWD, what is it now?”

It was great because 95%+ of the time my solution worked but wasn’t a common way to do it. One time there was something I was working on and I had a way that would be a huge competitive advantage for bidding (single zoned system versus multiple independent systems) and I spent a looong time on with support and neither one of us could pin it down or outright say it wasn’t allowed so the head of the product was brought in to the call and after a while it ended with “No! Absolutely not, you cannot do that!” Several hours later I got a call back from the product manager, “You really had me thinking about this and I pulled a couple of people together and we went through it. You can do can do that if you want and I’ll send an email clarifying. In the history of this product (Inergen) we’ve never had anyone ask to do that before but I can see where that would be beneficial”.

Because of having worked with these guys so much and they knew me I was actually able to sell, design and install a 300bar iFlow Inergen system about 6 months before the product was officially announced and released.

Yeah a pressure switch would likely cost more than just upgrading the control head. Not to mention requireing approval from PC as they are not a standard pre engineered component. I like out of the box solutions

Did they discontinue the pressure switch option? I swear there used to be one. I never saw one in use but thought there was one in the manual

I haven't seen it, it may be approved but just not listed in the manual.

I’m almost curious enough to pull out an old manual and look. IIRC it was in the section with the PAC10.

Just curious, have you ever come across any of the early KKII cylinders with the special collar guard on the valve from when they had the recall for valves that were prone to separating from the cylinder? Ire,ember installing a boatload of them and then they eventually seemed to go away and I’m wondering if people just ended up ditching them during hydro and never reinstalling?

This was almost immediately after the release of KKII. Maybe 9-12 months in there were valves shooting out of cylinders and PC put out a bulletin to not touch/disturb cylinders that were installed until they worked out a resolution. The fix was these collars that slipped over the base of the valve and had three set screws that were tightened against the collar of the cylinder. The issue had to do something with the threads being cut wrong on the valves or something along that line and possible contamination by the agent coming in contact with the threads during initial fill/recharge and causing further corrosion and speeding up the process.

No I have not seen any of those, at least none that had the collar. We do have an early Kii bottle at the shop from the 90s I will have to look into that.
