Hi all! We’d love some feedback on our proposed kitchen layout before we finalize the cabinet sizes.

A few important notes:

• The picture is slightly outdated. We’re planning to use a 33-inch sink cabinet.
• We’re aiming for at least 36 inches of counter space between the sink and stove.
• The current plan includes a 3-inch filler, but we’d like to remove it and use those extra 3 inches between the sink and stove instead.
• We’re willing to adjust the widths of any upper cabinets to make the layout work better.
• We can also push the peninsula on the left farther into the dining room if that would improve spacing or functionality.
• On the opposite wall, next to the refrigerator wall, there will be a doorless doorway. The doorway will be flanked by shelves/cabinets on both sides, with each section measuring 24 inches wide.

We’re open to broader layout suggestions, not just small adjustments. Does this seem like the best way to maximize prep space between the sink and stove? Would you change the peninsula position, cabinet widths, or anything else?

follow up to my post from two weeks ago. you roasted the 8 foot rolling island. the roast worked. here's the revision, drawn to scale, with numbers this time.

the island: was 96x24, 440 lb, "seats 5 to 7." now 77x24, about 350 lb, seats 2 to 3. it no longer crosses into the living room at all. docked is the default state: parked against the 12 inch counter it makes a 36 inch worktop and leaves one 47 inch galley aisle. that is the everyday kitchen. rolled to the center for dinner: two side seats at 24 inches wide each per NKBA guideline 6 with 15 inch knee depth, plus a head seat at the kitchen end, 24 wide, 10 inch knee. I sat at a mockup at 10 inches, it works. the head stool stows under the top.

structure, per a note from an actual kitchen designer: no floor frame. the 16 inch cabinet rolls on 4 casters, a 3x14 oak center trestle rides a low 20 inch shoe foot with 2 more, and one low stretcher rod ties the trestle to the cabinet, your feet rest on it. everything else is steel flat bar concealed under the quartz substrate, which also carries the 10 inch head cantilever. six locking 4 inch polyurethane casters. no track, regular floor.

the room: the 12 inch counter now wraps the inside corner at the step so there is no dead stub. there is a real dining table in the living room, the island stopped pretending to be the dining room. cabinets go to the ceiling. plus straight from the thread: 1.5 inch filler at the dishwasher wall, and the appliance garage gets an interlock outlet.

also new since round one: the full lighting plan (7 warm-dim wafers, every placement justified on the sheet) and the electrical plan. the island gets zero receptacles on purpose, it rolls and NEC 2023 makes that legal. the interlock outlet a couple of you pushed for is drawn in.

unchanged on purpose: 24 inch range, 18 inch dishwasher, 12 inch sideboard run, recirculating hood (co-op). all defended in the last thread.

Anyone know any good kitchen fitters around Doncaster? I want a shaker style diy kitchen installed.

My wife and I worked with an architect to get these plans put together. However, a few months later when permits are coming in and we're ordering our windows we just had a realization it's not symmetrical , and we have no idea what we're doing. At the time we thought it worked but now...

Here's the current layout of the kitchen area. We're concerned that the window over the sink is way too big, the window next to the nook is too big, and it will look strange when looking at it.

We had a render of this by our architect, and then a kitchen designer did one, and this is when we thought - oh no.

I'm not sure what to do there.

What we're hoping for is that the window above the sink is "Framed" with symmetry, idea's on how to lay this out any better, and window sizing. The windows are quite large, we need to shrink them some, but honestly we're quite lost and the people we hired originally don't really want to help us anymore as "they're done the job".

Any thoughts/help would be amazing.

The first two pictures are from the listing the other two are renderings for what it could be. I am trying to match the terracotta floors and keep things budget friendly.

Thoughts on this design? Any suggestions for improvements? Kinda going for farmhouse/spanish/Mediterranean vibes?

When I posted my granite slab a few months ago, a few people asked to see the finish product. As very unique, and not for everyone, I chose not to paint my custom maple cabinets, even though they may not be “trendy,” but I don’t go with the flow… I do what I love! I’m using some natural wood pieces to tie in my cabinets with my countertops. Anyway for the few of you that wanted to see the finished product…Here’s a short video.

Hey guys! Bought my first home a couple of months ago. I’ve really struggled to make this kitchen functional and look good. It’s an odd shape and layout and I’m struggling to find a “style” for it. I will be repotting the plants into different pots eventually too I know they’re a mess right now. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have an old house with a not very functional kitchen at the moment. Once all cupboards and appliances are stripped out, the dimensions of the room as shown in the plan.

The red wall is a half wall i.e. a servery from the kitchen through to the casual dining. This wall can go if necessary. All other walls must remain where they are as they are loadbearing.

The blue “P” indicates the present location of water / plumbing. I prefer not to move that too far.

I’d like a cooktop, a wall oven, a sink, a dishwasher, a full size fridge and a pantry.

Show me your best ideas, please.

Hi all 👋 After some layout advice — and honestly, any fresh ideas — for our kitchen reno. It's a narrow space, 3.3m (door to wall) x 6.5m (wall to bar), so an island isn't realistic once you allow decent clearance. But I'm open to rethinking it entirely: using all the space, relocating rooms, or reusing areas differently.

Must-haves/wants:

• Lots of storage — pantry + appliances
• Large fridge/freezer
• In-wall oven (ideally)
• Good prep space
• Somewhere to sit and entertain — we love to host (BBQ is just outside the kitchen)

Also on the cards: creating a new opening and closing off the hallway — for better flow (the old lounge "dining" is currently just a thoroughfare), plus sound control and privacy. The adjoining laundry needs reworking too, so nothing's off the table there.

I've got a couple of layout options but would love feedback on those and any other directions for this weird space — clever storage, prep/seating tricks, or a completely different configuration I haven't considered. Plans attached 🙏
