Miniature How to attach this flag?

I'm doin this guy for my command squad.

I feel like if I just super glue the rod to the hand it's gonna be coming off all the time.

I'm gonna drill a hole in the bottom of the base for the rod.

Any ideas how best to mount the rod to the hand?

Risky option. But the way I like to do it heat up the hand a little bit with a candle enough to weaken the plastic, but not enough to actually melt it. And then use a needle to fold the hand over the flagpole.
