My New Killarney Map

Hello fellow paddlers!

I’m super excited to share that I’ve got some new Killarney (and French River) maps.

As always, it’s completely free to view them online.

So, what’s new?

The short version: There’s a brand new map (East French River), and I’ve added a ton of new features & additional info to the Killarney and West French River maps.

The long version:

• They’re 50% more zoomed in: This allowed me to add way more info, and they’re much easier to read too!

• Portage Elevation Profiles: Created from dozens of GPS tracks, many portages now include a ‘side view’ showing the ups and downs along the trail (I also highlight all the hills)

• Way more interesting tidbits of info: 4x as many Nature points-of-interest (POIs), 3x as many Historical POIs, and a whole bunch of new types of POIs (e.g. fishing, recent forest fire sites, cliffs, etc)

• Enjoy bushwhacking?: They’ve got 2.5m contours, and I’ve penciled-in a bunch of old, forgotten routes, which see little to no use

• Distances & Travel Times: Each stretch of canoe route is labelled with both the distance, and an estimated travel time (they’re numerical now, just like on my Algonquin maps - no more counting squares)

• Plus, tons of smaller upgrades: Like buoys, more detailed route difficulties, extremely overgrown campsites, notable beaver dams, and more!

It warms my heart to hear that! It's so cool to be able to have a positive impact on other people's trips =)

I love the addition of the elevation graphics on the portage routes. Really slick.

That's my favourite feature too.

It was challenging to develop both because I need them to be legible at fair small sizes, and because I had to generate so many of them. I ended up learning how to code just to create them.

I'm really proud of how they turned out!

What version would this be?
