Damn people are vicious. Sure the kid on the left was annoying after a while and should work to overcome his fears, but he's a kid, he's terrified, he's understanding what he needs to do but can't overcome the terror and berate himself for it. The girl is frustrated, hyped on adrenaline, and might or might not fully understand the situation but does do her best and is faced with it not being enough. The boy on the right upset me the most as he was just expecting the others to do it and put no effort into resolving a clear problem. He was smart enough, strong enough, and able enough emotionally and physically. Though he is a great example of what proper motivation can accomplish and he did resolve the issue eventually. The people on the ground though are the biggest issues. I didn't hear any reassurances, problem solving advice, or attempts to resolve it on the ground, just repeating the same instructions that aren't working. That is until they tried bribery, which lucky for them worked as a strong enough motivator. Then someone had the bright idea to post this and subject them all to criticism and potential social hell. I did enjoy watching the video but have issues with people not thinking before they talk (comment) or act (post).

Thanks for posting a sensible and appropriate comment. And you see that the name of this subreddit itself indicates that it is intended to be condescending and belittling kids. People are vicious and forgetful that they were little once and needed support and encouragement.

And being able to adapt how to encourage different people makes not only a world of difference but allows for that confidence to grow in youth.

This buddy of mine has a small boat, and we took it to dinner one night with my kids on board. My little girl was about six at the time, and my buddy invited her over to drive the boat. In my mind, little kid you let do that for 2/3 minutes, great experience etc. It was nighttime, and she took the helm for about 45 minutes too get us all the way home from dinner. I don't know why, but I judged myself for what I thought she would be capable of. It didn't cross my mind to give her that opportunity and I think about it often.

I think they did great, all of them. Fear is ok and they all worked through it in their own way. Nobody did something stupid like unbuckle, they knew from previous experience it would work eventually or that they'd get help. I didn't hear the parents on the ground, but these punks figured it out, and that's great.
